''Neighbourhood'' is the second solo album by session drummer Manu Katché, recorded in March and November 2004 and released on ECM September the following year. Unlike his previous album, '' It's About Time'', considered a rock/funk album, ''Neighbourhood'' is jazz. Manu Katché
Manu Katché (born 27 October 1958) is a French drummer and songwriter of Ivorian descent. He has worked extensively as a session musician, notably with Sting and Peter Gabriel, and his solo albums as a bandleader are largely in the jazz fusion style. Career Session musician Katché was born on 27 October 1958 in Saint-Maur-des-Fossés in the southeastern suburbs of Paris, France. He performed on several successful albums in the mid-1980s such as Peter Gabriel's 1986 album '' So'' and Sting's '' …Nothing Like the Sun'' (1987) and '' The Soul Cages'' (1990). Tomasz Stańko
Tomasz Ludwik Stańko (11 July 1942 – 29 July 2018) was a Polish trumpeter and composer. Stańko was associated with free jazz and the avant-garde. In 1962, Tomasz Stańko formed his first band, the Jazz Darings, with saxophonist Janusz Muniak, pianist Adam Makowicz, bassist Jacek Ostaszewski, drummer Wiktor Perelmuter. Inspired by Ornette Coleman and the innovations of John Coltrane, Miles Davis and George Russell, the group is often cited by music historians as the first European group to play free jazz. In his later years, he collaborated with pianist Krzysztof Komeda on Komeda's album '' Astigmatic'', recorded in late 1965. In 1968, Stańko formed a quintet whose members were Janusz Muniak (tenor and soprano saxophones, flute), Zbigniew Seifert (alto sax and violin), Bronisław Suchanek (bass), Janusz Stefański (drums, percussion). Jan Garbarek
Jan Garbarek () (born 4 March 1947) is a Norwegian jazz saxophonist, who is also active in classical music and world music. Garbarek was born in Mysen, Østfold, southeastern Norway, the only child of a former Polish prisoner of war, Czesław Garbarek, and a Norwegian farmer's daughter. He grew up in Oslo, stateless until the age of seven, as there was no automatic grant of citizenship in Norway at the time. When he was 21, he married the author Vigdis Garbarek. He is the father of musician and composer Anja Garbarek. Biography Garbarek's style incorporates a sharp-edged tone, long, keening, sustained notes, and generous use of silence.
