Negev Museum Of Art
The Negev Museum of Art is an art museum in the Old City of Be'er Sheva, Israel. The building is the former Governor's Mansion, built in 1906 by the Ottomans as part of government edifices that include the Seraya and the local mosque. Building The two-floor building is a typical Ottoman “konak” house: the home of a governor or some other dignitaries, in which official meeting and receptions are held. Its facade has a four arched portico. During World War I the building housed the Officer of the British Staff and in 1938 it became a Bedouin girls school. Various modifications to the building were made during the British Mandate period, including adding an inner staircase and two rooms in the upper floor. After the 1948 Arab–Israeli War, the building served the IDF. It turned to its civil use again after the foundation of the city of Be'er Sheva as the city's first municipality. Moshe Kupferman
Moshe Kupferman (1926-2003) was an Israeli artist. Biography Moshe Kupferman was born on 12 August 1926 in Jarosław, Poland. In 1941, he was exiled with his family to camps in the Urals and in Germany. Moshe Kupferman's work links recent lyric abstraction to the modernistic. It is the result of a process beginning with free, uncritical expression bordering on personal confession, and continuing with critical painting, in which the artist "erases" his "confession". The final result testifies to the preceding stages, and to the inherent conflicts in his work, between expressive drama and introspection, form and atmosphere, destruction and construction. The contradictions he succeeded in integrating in his work placed Kupferman in the front ranks of Israeli art. Monument To The Negev Brigade
The Monument to the Negev Brigade ( he, אנדרטת חטיבת הנגב, ''Andartat Hativat HaNegev''), known locally as the Andarta, is a monument designed by Dani Karavan in memory of the members of the Palmach Negev Brigade who fell fighting on Israel's side during the 1948 Arab Israeli War. It is situated on a hill overlooking the city of Beersheba from the east and constitutes a recognized symbol of the Negev and Beersheba. In addition to its strengths as a memorial, it was a precursor to the land art movement. The monument was built between 1963 and 1968 at a time when Israel was making many physical memorials to those who fought and died in its wars. It is made of raw concrete consisting of eighteen separate elements covering 10,000 square meters. These elements are symbolic and connected to Palmach and to the War of Independence. Ludwig Blum
Ludwig Blum (24 July 1891 – 28 July 1974) was a Moravian-born Israeli painter. He emigrated to Israel in 1923, as part of the Third Aliyah, and became known as "the painter of Jerusalem". Yigal Tumarkin
Igael Tumarkin (Hebrew: יגאל תומרקין; 23 October 1933 – 12 August 2021) was an Israeli painter and sculptor. Biography Peter Martin Gregor Heinrich Hellberg (later Igael Tumarkin) was born in 1933 in Dresden, Saxony, Germany. His father, Martin Hellberg, was a German theater actor and director, and a son of a pastor. His Jewish mother, Berta Gurevitch, and his stepfather, Herzl Tumarkin, immigrated to then British Mandate of Palestine (now Israel) when he was two. Tumarkin served in the Israeli Navy. After completing his military service, he studied sculpture in Ein Hod, a village of artists near Mount Carmel, under Rudi Lehmann. His youngest son is the actor Yon Tumarkin. Tumarkin died at the age of 87 on 12 August 2021. Micha Bar-Am (Hebrew: מיכה בר-עם; born 1930) is a German-born Israeli photographer. Biography Micha Bar-Am is one of Israel's most senior photographers. For more than sixty years his photographs have played a central role in the construction of Israel's cultural memory, and have presented the country's image to the entire world. Sigalit Ethel Landau ( he, סיגלית לנדאו; born 1969) is an Israeli sculptor, video and installation artist. Biography Sigalit Ethel Landau was born in 1969 in Jerusalem. She spent several years in the US and the UK. Between 1990 and 1995, she studied art at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem. Aviva Uri (Hebrew: אביבה אורי; March 12, 1922 – September 1, 1989) was an Israeli painter. Biography Aviva Uri studied dance with Gertrude Kraus. In 1941, she married Moshe Levin, with whom she had a daughter, Rachel. In 1943, she studied painting with Moshe Castel, continuing with David Hendler in 1944. She married Hendler in 1963. She cultivated an unusual appearance, wearing white face makeup and dark eye-shadow, and oversized black clothing. She deliberately falsified her age, claiming she was born in 1927. She died in Tel Aviv in 1989. Artistic style Uri's expressive drawings focused on line and composition.
