Bodil Neergaard
Ellen Bodil Neergaard née Hartmann (10 February 1867 – 18 May 1959) was a Danish philanthropist and patron of the arts. She is remembered for her many philanthropic activities as well as for her life in Fuglsang Manor on the island of Lolland where, together with her husband Rolf Viggo de Neergaard, she hosted every Summer prominent artists and musicians. Early life and family background Born on 10 February 1867 in Copenhagen, Ellen Bodil Hartmann was the daughter of the composer Emil Hartmann (1836–1898) and Bolette Puggaard (1844–1929). Her paternal grandfather, J.P.E. Hartmann, was also a renowned composer while her maternal grandfather, Rudolph Puggaard was a prosperous merchant and philanthropist. Carl Neergaard (1800–1850)
Carl (de) Neergaard (2 March 1800 – 2 August 1850) was a Danish landowner and politician. He was the owner of Gunderslevholm and Kastrup on central Zealand. He was a member of the 1848 Danish Constituent Assembly. Early life Neergaard was born on 2 March 1800 at Ringsted Abbey, the second son of Peter Johansen Neergaard (1769–1835) and Elisabeth J. Von Mourier (1778–1813). He graduated from Roskilde Cathedral School in 1819. Landowner and local politician Neergaard began his career as a farmer as manager of Fuglsang and Priorskov manors on Lolland under the guidance of Johan Ditlev Friderichsen. From 1826 to 1830, he was the owner of Nørlund and Torstedlund. Neergaard received Gunderslevholm and Kastrupgaard on central Zealand when his father divided his estates between his three surviving sons in 1835. Hermania Sigvardine Neergaard (1799–1875) was a Danish flower and still-life painter. A student of Frederik Christian Camradt (1762–1844), she exhibited her paintings in Charlottenborg where several were bought by the royal family. Biography Born on 12 August 1799 in Copenhagen, Hermania Sigvardine Neergaard was the daughter of the merchant Hans Peter Neergaard (c.1774–1810) and Sophie Kristine Læssøe (1777–1867). She learnt to paint at F.C. Camradt's drawing and painting school. From 1821 and for the rest of her life, Neergaard was a frequent exhibitor at the Charlottenborg Spring Exhibitions. Her first submission was a vase of flowers, copied from one of Camradt's works. It was in gouache, a technique used by the older flower painters at the time. Joachim Neergaard
Joachim Brunn de Neergaard (27 April 1877 – 31 October 1920) was a Danish composer. Neergaard was born in Stubberup, a small village in the east-central part of Jutland in 1877. He came from scions of an aristocratic family with long service to the Danish government and as such was eventually sent to take a law degree which he finished in 1901. However, Neergaard's true love was music and not the law. He had studied piano from the time of his youth and wished to pursue a career in music. To this end, he took advanced piano studies while at the same time studying theory and composition. Neergaard, whose life was relatively short, was not a prolific composer and left us with less than 30 works. He died in Sorø, south of Copenhagen, in 1920. He wrote a little-known but highly regarded string quartet between 1908 and 1910. Joachim Wedell-Neergaard, née Wedell-Wedellsborg (11 January 1862 – 4 January 1926) was a Danish diplomat, landowner and chamberlain. The son of Gustav Wedell-Wedellsborg and Louise Elise Henriette Bruun de Neergaard, on 19 June 1893 he was granted royal permission to carry the name Wedell-Neergaard. He had that same year succeeded his maternal grandfather as owner of Svenstrup Manor at Køge. He was president of the Danish Forest Association from 1906 to 1916.
