Nee Soon SMC
Nee Soon Constituency was a single member constituency in the northern area in Singapore that was created in 1959 general elections and ceased to exist prior to 1988 general elections. History Nee Soon was one of the rural areas in the north of Singapore. At its inception in 1959, there were only 8,694 voters even including present-day Ang Mo Kio town, whereas wards nearer to the city centre such as Kreta Ayer had 14,173 voters in a much smaller area. This ward was finally dissolved prior to the 1988 general elections, with most of the ward forming Nee Soon South SMC consisting of Khatib and Yio Chu Kang (near Yio Chu Kang MRT station), and the portion in Yishun Central being renamed Nee Soon Central SMC where former opposition MP Cheo Chai Chen made his debut there. The remainder of this constituency was carved into 2 sub-divisions of Chong Pang and Nee Soon East. The Parliament of Singapore is the unicameral legislature of the Republic of Singapore, which governs the country alongside the president of Singapore. Yio Chu Kang MRT Station
Yio Chu Kang MRT station is an above-ground Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) station on the North South line in Ang Mo Kio, Singapore, near the junction of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 6 and Ang Mo Kio Avenue 8. This station primarily serves students of adjacent educational institutions such as Anderson Serangoon Junior College and Nanyang Polytechnic, as well as the residential and industrial estates in the northern part of Ang Mo Kio. The section of tracks between this station and Khatib MRT station is the longest between any two stations on the MRT network. Barisan Sosialis ( eng, Socialist Front) was a political party in Singapore. It was formed on 29 July 1961 and officially registered on 13 August 1961 by left-wing members of the People's Action Party (PAP) who had been expelled from the PAP. The prominent founding members of the Barisan were Lee Siew Choh and Lim Chin Siong. It became the biggest opposition party in Singapore in the 1960s and the 1980s. The People's Action Party (abbreviation: PAP) is a major conservative centre-right political party in Singapore and is one of the three contemporary political parties represented in Parliament, alongside the opposition Workers' Party (WP) and Progress Singapore Party (PSP). Initially founded as a traditional centre-left party in 1954, the leftist faction was soon expelled from the party in 1961 by Lee Kuan Yew in the midst of Singapore's merger with Malaysia, desiring to move the party's ideology towards the centre after its first electoral victory in 1959. The Legislative Assembly of the State of Singapore was the legislature of the Government of Singapore from 1955 to 1965 and is the predecessor of the Parliament of Singapore. The Rendel Constitution, proposed in 1953, sought to give the local population more self-governance as the ''Merdeka'' independence movement grew. The Constitution took effect upon the conclusion of the 1955 general election, creating the new Legislative Assembly to replace the Legislative Council of Singapore. The Workers' Party (abbreviation: WP) is a major centre-left political party in Singapore and is one of the three contemporary political parties represented in Parliament, alongside the governing People's Action Party (PAP) and opposition Progress Singapore Party (PSP). General elections were held in Singapore on 3 November 2001. President S.R. Nathan dissolved parliament on 18 October 2001 on the advice of Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong. The ruling People's Action Party (PAP) won 82 of the 84 elected seats in Parliament. Due to the large number (51) of uncontested seats, only 675,306 of the 2,036,923 eligible voters (33.2%) had an opportunity to vote. As of the recent election in 2020, this was the most recent, and fourth overall (third consecutive) election PAP returned to power on nomination day with a majority of uncontested walkovers. Nee Soon East Single Member Constituency was a single member constituency in the northern area of Singapore. The ward consists of Yishun's Neighbourhoods 2, 3 and 4. Formed in 2001 after being carved out from Sembawang Group Representation Constituency, its Member of Parliament was People's Action Party's Ho Peng Kee. In 2011, it was merged into a newly formed Nee Soon GRC. This SMC and Nee Soon Central SMC were formerly under the Sembawang-Nee Soon Town Council, which comprises Sembawang GRC (which has six members with this SMC) and Nee Soon Central SMC from 2001 until 2011. Chong Pang () is a housing estate located in the subzone of Yishun West along the Sembawang–Yishun boundary in the town of Yishun, Singapore. It was named after the former Chong Pang village. It has precincts of Neighbourhood 1, part of Neighbourhood 7 and private residential areas along Sembawang Road. History Chong Pang Village Chong Pang was the name of a former village which was located in the north of Singapore, near the site of the present day Sembawang MRT station. Prior to 1956, Chong Pang Village was originally known as Westhill Village (or Westhill estate). Part of Nee Soon Estate, the village was situated at the twelfth milestone at Seletar, opposite the Sembawang Aerodrome.
