Nederland High School
Nederland High School is a public high school located in the city of Nederland, Texas. It is part of the Nederland Independent School District which covers a portion of eastern Jefferson County, including all of Nederland and portions of Port Neches, Port Arthur, and Beaumont. In 2013, the school was rated " Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency. History Nederland Independent School District was officially organized in 1920, and the first high school was built in 1924 on the property where the Alternative Campus now resides at the 500 block of 12th Street. The new school was needed to accommodate students moving into the city due to the Pure Oil refinery being built. Athletics and the Nederland Band were organized in 1925 by C. 0. Eric Cammack
Eric Wade Cammack (born August 14, 1975) is a former relief pitcher in Major League Baseball who played briefly for the New York Mets during the season. Listed at , 180 lb., Cammack batted and threw right-handed. A native of Nederland, Texas, he was selected by the Mets in the 1997 draft out of the Lamar University Cardinals. In eight relief appearances, Cammack posted a 6.30 earned run average and did not have a decision or saves, giving up seven runs on seven hits and 10 walks while striking out nine in 10.0 innings of work. Cammack also pitched from 1997 through 2004 in the Mets, Astros and Athletics minor league systems. In 134 games, he collected a 24–15 record with a 3.17 ERA and 68 saves in innings. As a hitter, Cammack hit a triple in his first and only at bat, joining Charlie Lindstrom (1958), Eduardo Rodríguez (1973), and Scott Munninghoff (1980) as the only players to accomplish this feat in major league history. John Herbert Varley (born August 9, 1947) is an American science fiction writer. Biography Varley was born in Austin, Texas. He grew up in Fort Worth, moved to Port Arthur in 1957, graduated from Nederland High School—all in Texas—and went to Michigan State University on a National Merit Scholarship. He started as a physics major, switched to English, then left school before his 20th birthday and arrived in Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco just in time for the "Summer of Love" in 1967. There he worked at various unskilled jobs, depended on St. Anthony's Mission for meals, and panhandled outside the Cala Market on Stanyan Street (since closed) before deciding that writing had to be a better way to make a living. He was serendipitously present at Woodstock in 1969 when his car ran out of gas a half-mile away. Karen Silkwood
Karen Gay Silkwood (February 19, 1946 – November 13, 1974) was an American chemical technician and labor union activist known for raising concerns about corporate practices related to health and safety in a nuclear facility. She worked at the Kerr-McGee Cimarron Fuel Fabrication Site in Oklahoma, making plutonium pellets, and became the first woman on the union's negotiating team. After testifying to the Atomic Energy Commission about her concerns, she was found to have plutonium contamination on her person and in her home. While driving to meet with a ''New York Times'' journalist and an official of her union's national office, she died in a car crash under unclear circumstances. Her family sued Kerr-McGee for the plutonium contamination. The company settled out of court for US $1.38 million, while not admitting liability. Brian Lee Sanches (born August 8, 1978) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. In 1996, Sanches graduated Nederland High School in Texas where he played baseball, basketball, football, and ran track. Sanches attended Lamar University in Texas where he played for the Lamar Cardinals Baseball team. Career Kansas City Royals He was first drafted by the Kansas City Royals as a 2nd round pick in the 1999 Major League Baseball Draft and later signed with them on July 6, 1999. Sanches made his professional debut in 1999 with Single-A Spokane. While there, he struck out a career-high 11 batters in 6.0 innings pitched on August 27, 1999 versus Boise. Home Free is an American country a cappella group of five vocalists: Austin Brown, Rob Lundquist, Adam Rupp, Tim Foust, and Adam Chance. Starting as a show group, they toured with approximately 200 shows a year across the United States. The group won the The Sing-Off (season 4), fourth season of ''The Sing-Off'' on NBC in 2013. They sang an arrangement of Hunter Hayes' "I Want Crazy" as their final competitive song, earning the group $100,000 and a recording contract with Sony BMG, Sony.
