Nedelle
Nedelle Torrisi is an American musician who lives in Brooklyn, New York. Biography Torrisi grew up studying classical violin and performing in musicals. Her mother is an ex-nun and pianist, while her father was an ex-Jesuit priest and jazz drummer. Her brother is a clarinetist and neuroscientist. Torrisi studied jazz voice at Berklee College of Music, and earned her BA in jazz/world music history from San Francisco State University. Musical career She has released and toured using her first name only, her full name, and as Cryptacize with Chris Cohen. As a solo act, she has opened tours for Of Montreal, Deerhoof, Destroyer, Fred Thomas, Jens Lekman, Julia Holter, Magnolia Electric Co., and Xiu Xiu. Her first solo album, ''From the Lion's Mouth'' was released by Kill Rock Stars on February 22, 2005. The album ''The Locksmith Cometh'' was released in 2007 via the Tangrams7 label. Cryptacize
Cryptacize is a California pop band founded by Nedelle Torrisi and Chris Cohen in 2006. They released two records on the Asthmatic Kitty label. After seeing percussionist Michael Carreira's solo cowbell videos on YouTube, Cohen and Torrisi asked him to join the band and they recorded their debut album Dig That Treasure (which was named after a musical written by Cohen's father in 1958). Cryptacize generated some controversy in 2008 with their cover of Steely Dan's ''Peg'' when some readers posted angry comments on Stereogum. They toured the US many times, opening for bands such as Why?, Danielson, Sufjan Stevens, Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, and The Fiery Furnaces. Babes (band)
Babes is a Los Angeles-based indie pop band formed in 2013. The band is made up of siblings Billy Uomo, Sarah Rayne Leigh, and their cousins Jeffrey Baird and Bryan Harris. Their music has been described by critics as sad yet irreverent pop music for the bedroom with occasional flashes of sunny surf pop. Babes was the first ever musical guest on the podcast Harmontown in late 2016, and has since reappeared on additional episodes. The band's music has also been featured on Adult Swim, with comedians such as Eric Wareheim and DJ Douggpound starring in their videos. Babes frontman and primary songwriter Billy Uomo also collaborates with Nedelle Torrisi on shared musical projects. The Curtains is an American band founded by Chris Cohen and visual artist Trevor Shimizu in San Francisco, California in 2000. ''Before Today'' is the eighth studio album by American recording artist Ariel Pink, credited to "Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti", and released on June 8, 2010. The album marked Pink's debut on the record label 4AD. It was his first official LP of new recordings since 2003's ''Worn Copy'' and his first written and recorded with a supporting band, referred to in the liner notes as "Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti". Chris Cohen is an American singer-songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist best known for his solo albums as well as for having been a member of the band Deerhoof between 2002 and 2006. Early life and education Born in Los Angeles, California in 1975, he is the son of former music business executive Kip Cohen and former Broadway actress Lynn Cohen (known professionally as Lynn Carlisle). Xiu Xiu ( ) is an American experimental band, formed in 2002 by singer-songwriter Jamie Stewart in San Jose, California. Currently, the line-up consists of Stewart (the only constant member since formation) and Angela Seo.
