Ned Liddell
Edward Liddle (27 May 1878 – 22 November 1968) (sometimes Liddell) was an English association football, football player, manager and Scout (association football), scout. He played in the English Football League, Football League for Gainsborough Trinity F.C., Gainsborough Trinity, Leyton Orient F.C., Clapton Orient, with whom he spent the majority of his playing career, and Arsenal F.C., Arsenal, and spent time with a number of other clubs at varying levels. Liddle went on to manage four teamsSouthend United F.C., Southend United, Queens Park Rangers F.C., Queens Park Rangers, Fulham F.C., Fulham and Luton Town F.C., Luton Townin league football. Playing career Liddle was born in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, Sunderland and during his playing career, he played as a wing half for a number of clubs. Wing Half
A midfielder is an outfield position in association football. Midfielders may play an exclusively defensive role, breaking up attacks, and are in that case known as defensive midfielders. As central midfielders often go across boundaries, with mobility and passing ability, they are often referred to as deep-lying midfielders, play-makers, box-to-box midfielders, or holding midfielders. There are also attacking midfielders with limited defensive assignments. The size of midfield units on a team and their assigned roles depend on what formation is used; the unit of these players on the pitch is commonly referred to as the midfield. Its name derives from the fact that midfield units typically make up the in-between units to the defensive units and forward units of a formation.
