The Nebraska–Kearney Lopers are the athletic teams that represent the University of Nebraska at Kearney, located in Kearney, Nebraska, in intercollegiate sports as a member of the Division II level of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), primarily competing in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) for most of its sports since the 2012–13 academic year; while its women's swimming and diving team competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK) is a campus of the public University of Nebraska system and located in Kearney, Nebraska. It was founded in 1905 as the Nebraska State Normal School at Kearney. History In March 1903 the Nebraska State Legislature appropriated $50,000 to build a normal school in western Nebraska. In September of that same year, after 111 ballots, the State Board of Education accepted the city of Kearney's offer of and Green Terrace Hall at the western edge of the city to become its site. The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) established in 1940, is a college athletics association for colleges and universities in North America. Joba Chamberlain
Justin Louis "Joba" Chamberlain (''né'' Heath; ; born September 23, 1985) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals, and Cleveland Indians. Chamberlain played college baseball for the Nebraska Cornhuskers before the Yankees selected him in the first round of the 2006 MLB draft. He ascended through the minor leagues and made his MLB debut in 2007 as a relief pitcher during the Yankees' pursuit of a berth in the MLB postseason. Randy Rasmussen (American Football, Born 1945)
Randall Lee Rasmussen (born May 10, 1945) is a former American football guard. He played 15 seasons with the New York Jets. He played for the Jets in the 1968 AFL Championship Game victory over the AFL's Oakland Raiders, and started in the third AFL–NFL World Championship Game (Super Bowl III), in which the Jets defeated the NFL's Baltimore Colts. He was the last of the starting Jets players in the game to retire, playing his final game in the 1981 playoffs against the Buffalo Bills. Rasmussen is one of five professional football players in professional football history who attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Stephen Goodin (born August 25, 1988) is an American football offensive guard who is a free agent. He played college football at the University of Nebraska at Kearney and attended Hastings Senior High School in Hastings, Nebraska. The Nebraska State League (NSL) was an American professional minor league baseball league with five incarnations between 1892 and 1959. Women's College World Series
The Women's College World Series (WCWS) is the final portion of the NCAA Division I softball tournament for college softball in the United States. Eight teams participate in the WCWS, which begins with a double-elimination tournament. In other words, a team is eliminated when it has lost two games. After six teams have been eliminated, the remaining two teams compete in a best-of-three series to determine the Division I WCWS National Champion. Opponents are chosen in such a way that it is possible for any two of the eight teams to meet in the championship series.
