Near The Rainbow's End
''Near the Rainbow's End'' is a 1930 American Western film directed by J. P. McGowan for Tiffany Productions. The film stars Bob Steele in his talking picture debut as a singing cowboy, Lafe McKee and Al Ferguson and was commercially released in the United States on June 10, 1930. Plot Rancher Tug Wilson (Alfred Hewston) discovers his mate's diabolical scheme, only to be killed instantly. The criminal rancher, Buck Rankin (Al Ferguson), is guilty of killing the Bledsoes' cattle. Buck blames Tug's death on Jim ( Bob Steele), the son of Tom Bledsoe (Lafe McKee). Seeking revenge, Tug's daughter Ruth (Louise Lorraine) joins a movement led by Buck to kill Jim. Jim narrowly escapes his first capture attempt but knows he will not make it far. Luckily for him, a sheep herder has witnessed Buck killing Tug and the cattle. Trem Carr
Tremlet C. Carr (November 6, 1891– August 18, 1946) was an American film producer, closely associated with the low-budget filmmaking of Poverty Row. In 1931 he co-founded Monogram Pictures, which developed into one of the leading specialist producers of B pictures in Hollywood. In 1935, the company was merged into the newly created Republic Pictures, but a year later, Carr broke away and reestablished Monogram as an independent company. Following his death in 1946, Monogram changed its name to Allied Artists and began producing films made on higher budgets. Louise Lorraine (born Louise Escovar; October 1, 1904 – February 2, 1981) was an American actress. Life and career Louise Lorraine was born Louise Escovar in San Francisco, California. One day, a photography salesman knocked on the door of the Los Angeles home where Lorraine lived with her widowed mother and five siblings. The door was answered by Lorraine. The salesman was so taken aback by her looks and demeanor that he told her mother she should be in films, then silent films and he happened to have a contact with Ince Studio. Initially, Lorraine's mother refused, but eventually she gave in. Lorraine began working in films as an extra and "a bathing girl" before she gained leading roles in comedies for independent studios. Sally Winters (also known as Sally McGowan) was an American screenwriter known for cranking out B movie Westerns in the late 1920s with her then-partner, director J.P. McGowan. She also appeared in a handful of movies as an actress. Personal life During the mid-1920s, she dated Worthy Butts, a well-known Hollywood automobile agent; the pair were charged with "staging an orgy" by neighbors who disliked their antics. She later filed a lawsuit against McGowan and Meteor Productions, alleging that McGowan and Winters had lived together for five years beginning in 1926 but that he had not lived up to his promise to marry her. During the suit, she disclosed that McGowan had paid her $60 a week to write scenarios he'd direct, and that he failed to pay her.
