Nayobe Catalina Gomez, known professionally as Nayobe (born December 18, 1967, in Brooklyn, New York), is an American singer of Afro-Rican heritage and freestyle dance-pop musician. Her most successful singles are "Good Things Come to Those Who Wait", "Second Chance for Love" and "It's Too Late", which reached positions Nos. 15, 30 and 5 on the ''Billboard'' Hot Dance Club Songs chart, respectively. Career In the early part of 1985, Nayobe became the first Latin American female to record a freestyle song called "Please Don't Go", produced by Andy Panda. Some music critics declared her record the first song of the genre and of the whole Latin hip hop movement which later became known as freestyle music. Salsa music is a style of Latin American music. Because most of the basic musical components predate the labeling of salsa, there have been many controversies regarding its origin. Most songs considered as salsa are primarily based on son montuno, with elements of Mambo (music), mambo, Latin jazz, Bomba (Puerto Rico), bomba, plena and guaracha. All of these elements are adapted to fit the basic son montuno template when performed within the context of salsa.
