The red corridor, also called the red zone, is the region in the eastern, central and the southern parts of India where the Naxalite–Maoist insurgency has the strongest presence. The United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) (Assamese: সংযুক্ত মুক্তি বাহিনী, অসম) is an armed separatist organisation operating in the Northeast Indian state of Assam. It seeks to establish an independent sovereign nation state of Assam for the indigenous Assamese people through an armed struggle in the Assam conflict. The Government of India banned the organisation in 1990 citing it as a terrorist organisation, while the United States Department of State lists it under "other groups of concern." Akhil Bharat Nepali Ekta Samaj (ABNES) is a group founded in 1979 in Varanasi, India, whose stated purpose is to work for the unity amongst, and welfare of Nepalese people residing in India. ABNES was registered in the Hindu-sacred city of Varanasi (Benaras), in 1979. Varanasi traditionally maintained it connections with country of Nepal and the Nepalese traditions. It gradually evolved into a terrorist front organization for the Maoist insurgents of Nepal. In July 2002 it was declared a terrorist organization, and banned by the Ministry of Home Affairs. The People's Liberation Army of Manipur, often shortened to just People's Liberation Army (PLA-MP or PLAM), founded by N. Bisheshwar Singh on 25 September 1978, is a separatist armed terrorist group fighting for a separate independent socialist state of Manipur, a state in northeastern India. Though it claims to fight for the entire state, the Nagas, Kukis and the tribals in the state are not part of the group. The cadres are drawn from the Meitei people and the Pangal people.
