Navy Day (Turkmenistan)
The Day of the Navy of Turkmenistan ( Turkmen: Türkmenistanyň harby-deňiz güni) is an official holiday of Turkmenistan. It was established in 2011 following an appeal by defense minister Yaylym Berdiyev to President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow. It was set on 9 October in honor of the presidential working visit to one of the military units located in a suburb in the city of Turkmenbashi. It is celebrated on October 9 and honors the founding of the Turkmen Naval Forces. Navy Day 2013 In 2013, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov made a working trip to Balkan province, where he met with the officers of the military units of the Ministry of Defence, seamen and cadets of the Navy. Navy Day 2015 In 2015, President Berdimuhamedov inaugurated new buildings of Naval Institute in Turkmenbashi on the occasion of Navy Day. Türkmenbaşy ( Turkmen Cyrillic: Түркменбашы, Turkmen Arabic; توركمنباشی, also spelled Turkmenbashi, a back-formation of the Cyrillic Түркменбаши), formerly known as Krasnovodsk (russian: Красноводск), Kyzyl-Su, and Shagadam ( tk, Şagadam), is a city in Balkan Province in Turkmenistan, on the Türkmenbaşy Gulf of the Caspian Sea. The president of Turkmenistan ( tk, Türkmenistanyň prezidenti), officially the president and chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, is the head of state and head of government of Turkmenistan. The president is also the supreme commander in chief of the Armed Forces of Turkmenistan and heads the State Security Council. Serdar Berdimuhamedow is the current president of Turkmenistan, the third in the history of the country since it gained independence with the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991. Yaylym Yagmyrovich Berdiyev ( tk, Ýaýlym Ýagmyrowiç Berdiýew, Cyrillic: Яйлым Ягмырович Бердиев) is a Turkmen general and politician. He is a former Minister of National Security as well as the former Secretary of the State Security Council of Turkmenistan. He also previously served as the Minister of Defense of Turkmenistan from 2015 to 2018. Biography He was born in the Baharden District of the Turkmen SSR.
