AOLpress is a discontinued HTML editor that was available from America Online ( AOL). It was originally developed as NaviPress by the company NaviSoft before being bought by AOL. It was discontinued in 2000. However, the last version (2.0) may still be found on some Web sites for downloading. AOLpress was rather strict about enforcing legal HTML: when saving edited pages that were created outside AOLpress, code that did not conform to the HTML 3.2 standard and specifications may have been changed to do so. Today, the HTML code used is very outdated and may not work correctly in modern browsers. It does not support PNG images, and this limits its support on many sites where the newer PNG format has been adopted. NaviServer is a high performance web server written in C (programming language), C and Tcl. AOLserver
AOLserver is AOL's Open-source software, open source web server. AOLserver is Thread_(computing)#Single-threaded_vs_multithreaded_programs, multithreaded, Tcl-enabled, and used for large scale, dynamic web sites. AOLserver is distributed under the Mozilla Public License. AOLserver was originally developed by NaviSoft under the name "NaviServer", but changed names when AOL bought the company in 1995. Philip Greenspun convinced America Online to open-source the program in 1999. AOLserver was the first HTTP server program to combine Thread (computer science), multithreading, a built-in scripting language, and the pooling of persistent database connections. For database-backed Web sites, this enabled performance improvements of 100× compared to the standard practices at the time of CGI scripts that opened fresh database connections on every page load. The Global Network Navigator (GNN) was the first commercial web publication and the first web site to offer clickable advertisements.
