Naval De Talcahuano
Naval de Talcahuano, were a Chilean football club based in the city of Talcahuano, Biobío Region. The club founded in 1944 as ''Asociación Naval de Foot-Ball'', was property of the Armada de Chile and played only at amateur level for 24 years, until 1968 when it began to play at professional level in the second tier of Chilean football. Since then, the club played 6 seasons at the Second level, and 17 at the highest level of Chilean football, the Primera División. Their best performance were the seasons 1981 and 1982, when they finished 5th; and the season 1983 when they reached the final of the Chilean Cup, losing to Univ. Catolica 1–0. In 1991 the club was dissolved by the then Chilean Navy Commander, General ''Jorge Martínez Bush'', due to financial difficulties. Talcahuano () (From Mapudungun ''Tralkawenu'', "Thundering Sky") is a port city and commune in the Biobío Region of Chile. It is part of the Greater Concepción conurbation. Talcahuano is located in the south of the Central Zone of Chile. Geography Together with ten other municipalities, it forms part of the Concepción Province, which in turn is one of four provinces that forms the VIII Region of Biobío Region. Demographics According to the 2002 census of the National Statistics Institute, Talcahuano spans an area of and has 250,348 inhabitants (121,778 men and 128,570 women). The Copa Chile (''Chile Cup'') is an annual cup competition for Chilean football teams. Due to time constraints and club pressure, the trophy was cancelled in 2000, but returned in 2008. Its precursor was the Campeonato de Apertura (''Opening Championship''), played from 1933 to 1950.
