The United States Naval Photographic Science Laboratory (NPSL) was opened in the midst of the Second World War, on 24 February 1943, at the Joint Base Anacostia–Bolling, Anacostia Naval Air Station, Washington, D. C. It was established under the military command of the Chief of the Navy's Bureau of Aeronautics, Division of Photography, with the mission of centralizing the production and preservation of all naval related photography operations. History In July, 1941, United States Secretary of the Navy Frank Knox convened a board to study the photographic needs of the United States Navy. By August, the board had recommended an expansion of operations of the Bureau of Aeronautics to include a photographic facility. The Eastman Kodak Company would serve as architect, engineer, and equipment producer for the project, which initiated construction at Joint Base Anacostia–Bolling, Anacostia Naval Air Station in February, 1942. Joint Base Anacostia–Bolling
Joint Base Anacostia–Bolling (JBAB) is a 905-acre (366 ha) military installation, located in Southeast, Washington, D.C., established on 1 October 2010 in accordance with congressional legislation implementing the recommendations of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission. The legislation ordered the consolidation of Naval Support Facility Anacostia (NSF) and Bolling Air Force Base (BAFB), which were adjoining, but separate military installations, into a single joint base, one of twelve formed in the country as a result of the law. The base hosts the Defense Intelligence Agency Headquarters amongst its other responsibilities. The only aeronautical facility at the base is a 100-by-100-foot (30 by 30 m) helipad (ICAO: KBOF). Edward Jean Steichen
Edward Jean Steichen (March 27, 1879 – March 25, 1973) was a Luxembourgish American photographer, painter, and curator, renowned as one of the most prolific and influential figures in the history of photography. Steichen was credited with transforming photography into an art form. A camera operator, or depending on the context cameraman or camerawoman, is a professional operator of a film camera or video camera as part of a film crew. The term "cameraman" does not imply that a male is performing the task. In filmmaking, the cinematographer or director of photography (DP or DoP) is sometimes called lighting cameraman or first cameraman. The DP may operate the camera themselves, or enlist the aid of a camera operator or second cameraman to operate it or set the controls. Photographic processing or photographic development is the chemical means by which photographic film or paper is treated after photographic exposure to produce a negative or positive image. Photographic printing is the process of producing a final image on paper for viewing, using photographic paper, chemically sensitized paper.
