Naushadnama
''Naushadnama'' is a 2013 biography of the Indian composer Naushad by the journalist and critic Raju Bharatan. Consisting of 21 chapters, the book predominantly focuses on Naushad's musical career from his debut in 1940 with '' Prem Nagar'', his rise to stardom, up to his final release '' Taj Mahal: An Eternal Love Story'' (2005). It also slightly covers his personal life, such as his birth on the Christmas day of 1919, his two-time marriages, and his death due to cardiac arrest in 2006. Bharatan got to know Naushad in 1949 and, after their first meeting in Bandra six year later, developed an interest on the composer's work. Although Naushad had asked Bharatan to write a biography on him during his lifetime, the writing, however, was started only after his death. ''Naushadnama'' was met with varied reviews from critics, who praised the book's comprehensiveness but criticised it for giving an extra focus on Naushad's career rather than his personal life. Pakeezah
''Pakeezah'' (; ) is a 1972 Indian Hindustani-language musical romantic drama film that was written, directed, and produced by Kamal Amrohi. The film stars Ashok Kumar, Meena Kumari, and Raaj Kumar. It tells the story of Sahibjaan, a Lucknow-based courtesan or dancer, popularly known as tawaif. While asleep on a train, Sahibjaan receives a note from a stranger praising her beauty. Later, evacuating from a broken boat, she takes shelter in a tent and finds out its owner, a forest ranger named Salim, wrote the letter. Sahibjaan and Sahib plan to get married, causing conflicts with Sahibjaan's professional background. Amrohi, to whom Kumari was married, wanted to make a film dedicated to his wife; he began conceiving the story after the release of their collaborative film ''Daaera'' (1953). Naushad Ali (25 December 1919 – 5 May 2006) was an Indian music director for Hindi films. He is widely considered to be one of the greatest and foremost music directors of the Hindi film industry. He is particularly known for popularising the use of classical music in films. His first film as an independent music director was ''Prem Nagar'' in 1940. His first musically successful film was ''Rattan'' (1944), followed by 35 silver jubilee hits, 12 golden jubilee and 3 diamond jubilee mega successes. Naushad was conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Padma Bhushan in 1981 and 1992 respectively for his contribution to the Hindi film industry. Raju Bharatan
Raju Bharatan (1934 – February 7, 2020) was a journalist and writer on Indian cricket and Bollywood music. He worked for a weekly features magazine, ''The Illustrated Weekly of India,'' and an Indian films weekly newspaper, ''Screen''. He also directed ''The Victory Story'' (1974), the first full-length Indian cricket documentary. He died aged 86 in Mumbai in February 2020 after a prolonged illness. He was survived by his daughter. His wife, Girija Rajendran, who predeceased him, was also a film journalist. Baiju Bawra (film)
''Baiju Bawra'' () is a 1952 Hindi musical romantic drama film directed by Vijay Bhatt. Produced by Prakash Pictures, with story by Ramchandra Thakur and dialogues by Zia Sarhadi, Baiju Bawra was a musical "megahit" which had a mighty run of 100 weeks in the theatres. Bhatt's decision to make a film based on classical music was met with scepticism by the Indian film industry due to its "lack of mass appeal", but the film and music turned out be an "overwhelming success". The film's music director was Naushad, who had become popular giving folk-based music in films such as ''Rattan'', ''Anmol Ghadi'', '' Shahjehan'' (1946) and '' Deedar'' (1951).
