National Union Party (Iran)
National Union Party ( fa, حزب اتحاد ملی, Ḥezb-e Ettehād-e Mellī) was a royalist party in Iran, established as an offshoot of the fraction of the same name in the Iranian Parliament. The party advocated supporting the Shah and pursuing social conservative programs, while seeking American aid, especially military aid to counterbalance the influence of Britain and Soviet Union. The Tudeh Party of Iran ( fa-at, حزب تودۀ ایران, Ḥezb-e Tūde-ye Īrān, lit=Party of the Masses of Iran) is an Iranian communist party. Formed in 1941, with Soleiman Mirza Eskandari as its head, it had considerable influence in its early years and played an important role during Mohammad Mosaddegh's campaign to nationalize the Anglo-Persian Oil Company and his term as prime minister. The crackdown that followed the 1953 coup against Mosaddegh is said to have "destroyed" the party,Abrahamian, Ervand, ''A History of Modern Iran'', p.122 although a remnant persisted.
