National Union Building
The National Union Building is a historic building, located at 918 F Street, Northwest, Washington, D.C., in the Penn Quarter neighborhood. It is currently owned by Douglas Development Corporation, and leased as an event and entertainment space History It was designed by Glenn Brown in 1890, and is an example of Romanesque architecture. The fire proof steel frame brownstone was built for the National Union Fire Insurance Company. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1990, and is a contributing property to the Downtown Historic District. Glenn Brown (architect)
Glenn Brown (1854–1932) was an American architect and historian. He wrote a two-volume ''History of the United States Capitol'' (1901 and 1904) and more than 100 articles. In 1927, Brown was elected into the National Academy of Design as an associate member. Several of his works are listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places. Romanesque Architecture
Romanesque architecture is an architectural style of medieval Europe characterized by semi-circular arches. There is no consensus for the beginning date of the Romanesque style, with proposals ranging from the 6th to the 11th century, this later date being the most commonly held. In the 12th century it developed into the Gothic style, marked by pointed arches. Penn Quarter is a neighborhood east of Downtown Washington, D.C. and north of Pennsylvania Avenue, NW.
