National Traffic Police
The National Traffic Police (or NTP; he, משטרת תנועה ארצית, ''Mishteret Tnu'a Artzit'', abbr. Matna) is the main Israeli traffic law enforcement unit. It was founded in September 1991 and in 1997 subordinated to the newly created Traffic Department of the Israel Police. It is a division of the Israel Police and is responsible for enforcing traffic laws and regulations in Israel. Units The National Traffic Police is divided into five regional units and a national patrol unit. The Israel Police ( he, משטרת ישראל, ''Mišteret Yisra'el''; ar, شرطة إسرائيل, ''Shurtat Isrāʼīl'') is the civilian police force of Israel. As with most other police forces in the world, its duties include crime fighting, traffic control, maintaining public safety, and counter-terrorism. It is under the jurisdiction of the Minister of Public Security. The National Headquarters of the Israel Police is located at Kiryat HaMemshala in Jerusalem. The Israel Police operates throughout Israel, the Area C of the West Bank and the Golan Heights, in all places in which Israel has civilian control. It is the sole civilian law enforcement agency in Israel: there are no municipal or regional police forces, though some municipalities operate municipal enforcement units that deal with low-level offenses and provide additional security and as such have the power to issue fines, but do not have police authority. Highway Patrol
A highway patrol, or state patrol is either a police unit created primarily for the purpose of overseeing and enforcing traffic safety compliance on roads and highways, or a detail within an existing local or regional police agency that is primarily concerned with such duties.
