National Register Of Historic Places
The National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) is the United States federal government's official list of districts, sites, buildings, structures and objects deemed worthy of preservation for their historical significance or "great artistic value". A property listed in the National Register, or located within a National Register Historic District, may qualify for tax incentives derived from the total value of expenses incurred in preserving the property. The passage of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) in 1966 established the National Register and the process for adding properties to it. Of the more than one and a half million properties on the National Register, 95,000 are listed individually. The remainder are contributing resources within historic districts. For most of its history, the National Register has been administered by the National Park Service (NPS), an agency within the U.S. Department of the Interior. Brown Covered Bridge
The Brown Covered Bridge is a wooden covered bridge in Shrewsbury, Vermont. Located in the northwestern part of the town, it carries Upper Cold River Road over the Cold River. It was closed to vehicular traffic in 2011 due to damage from Hurricane Irene and reopened as a National Historic Site on July 5, 2016. Built in 1880 by noted Vermont bridgewright Nichols M. Powers, it was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2014, cited as one of the finest and least-altered examples of a Town lattice truss covered bridge in the United States. Description and history The Brown Covered Bridge is set in a remote wooded ravine in northwestern Shrewsbury, about southeast of Rutland, Vermont. The bridge is a single span lattice truss of a type patented by architect Ithiel Town in 1820. It is in length, and rests on stone abutments that have been capped in concrete. Parker Hill Rural Historic District
The Parker Hill Rural Historic District encompasses a large () rural agricultural landscape in eastern Windham and Windsor counties in the US state of Vermont. Roughly centered on Parker Hill Road in northern Rockingham and southern Springfield, the district exhibits a history of 200 years of farming, including a collection of Federal period farm housing. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. Description and history The Parker Hill area is broadly defined by Parker Hill Road to the west and Obrien and Lower Parker Hill Roads to the east, which run from the Williams River in Rockingham, north to Seavers Brook, a tributary of the Black River. Mad River Glen Ski Area Historic District
Mad River Glen is a ski area in Fayston, Vermont. Located within the Green Mountain range, it sits in the Mad River Valley. Though not considered a large ski area, it has a vertical drop of , which ranks 14th in New England, and its terrain was ranked by ''Ski'' magazine as the most challenging on the east coast of the United States. Mad River Glen averages over of snow a year and maintains a traditional form of New England skiing that emphasizes snow preservation on narrow trails with little grooming instead of man-made snow on wide boulevards.
