Lewis County is a County (United States), county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. Its county seat is Vanceburg, Kentucky, Vanceburg. History The area presently bounded by Kentucky state lines was a part of the U.S. State of Virginia, known as Kentucky County, Virginia, Kentucky County when the British colonies separated themselves in the American Revolutionary War. In 1780, the Virginia legislature divided the previous Kentucky County into three smaller units: Fayette, Jefferson, and Lincoln. In 1791, this area was separated into the State of Kentucky; it became effective on June 1, 1792. From that time, the original three counties were divided several times. Vanceburg, Kentucky
Vanceburg is a home rule-class city in Lewis County, Kentucky, United States, along the Ohio River. The population was 1,518 at the 2010 census and estimated in 2018 to be 1,395. It is the county seat of Lewis County. Vanceburg is part of the Maysville Micropolitan Statistical Area. Geography Vanceburg is located in northern Lewis County at (38.595802, -83.319725), on the south bank of the Ohio River. Kentucky Route 9/ 10, the AA Highway, runs through the southern part of the city, leading west to Tollesboro. Kentucky Route 8
Kentucky Route 8 is a east–west state highway divided into two distinct segments across northern Kentucky. The western terminus of the route is at KY 237 near Francisville. The eastern terminus is at U.S. Route 23 in South Portsmouth. The two distinct segments of this route were not meant to be connected together. KY 8 from its west end in Boone County to Augusta in Bracken County is designated as a part of an identified corridor for bikes named the Ramblin' River Tour by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO). KY 8 is named the Mary Ingles Highway for part of its length. It is rumored that she was the first white woman in Kentucky. Kentucky Route 10, also known as KY 10, is a highway maintained by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet that runs from Alexandria, Kentucky (a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio) to the Jesse Stuart Memorial Bridge at Lloyd, roughly north of Greenup, Kentucky, where the route continues into Ohio as State Route 253. Part of its route, from Ribolt to east of Vanceburg in Lewis County, is along Kentucky Route 9.
