Black Rock is a city in Lawrence County, Arkansas, United States, along the Black River. The population was 662 at the 2010 census. Geography Black Rock is located in northern Lawrence County at (36.107794, -91.098913), at the eastern edge of the Ozarks. It sits on the west side of the Black River, a south-flowing tributary of the White River. U.S. Routes 63 and 412 run concurrently through the south side of the city, leading northwest to Hardy. United States Route 67
U.S. Route 67 is a major north–south U.S. highway which extends for 1,560 miles (2,511 km) in the Central United States. The southern terminus of the route is at the United States-Mexico border in Presidio, Texas, where it continues south as Mexican Federal Highway 16 upon crossing the Rio Grande. The northern terminus is at U.S. Route 52 in Sabula, Iowa. US 67 crosses the Mississippi River twice along its routing. The first crossing is at West Alton, Missouri, where US 67 uses the Clark Bridge to reach Alton, Illinois. About to the north, US 67 crosses the river again at the Rock Island Centennial Bridge between Rock Island, Illinois, and Davenport, Iowa. Smithville, Arkansas
Smithville is a town in Lawrence County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 78 at the 2010 census. History Euro-American settlers first came to the area of Smithville in 1808. Smithville became the county seat of modern-day Lawrence County in 1837. The county seat was later moved to Powhatan in 1869, after the Civil War. This was done in part to take advantage of riverboat commerce along the Black River. Smithville was the nearest town to the final shoot-out between law enforcement and the infamous tax fugitive Gordon Kahl on June 2, 1983, in which Lawrence County Sheriff Harold Gene Matthews was also killed. Arkansas Highway 91
Highway 91 (AR 91, Ark. 91, and Hwy. 91) is a north–south state highway in the Upper Arkansas Delta. The route of begins at US Highway 49 (US 49) and Highway 1 at Jonesboro and runs north to US 412 in Walnut Ridge. The route is maintained by the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department (AHTD). Route description AR 91 begins in northwest Jonesboro at US 63 BUS. The route runs west in a concurrency with AR 18 over US 63 as Dan Avenue. The concurrency continues west as Kings Highway until AR 18 turns south near Dryden. AR 91 meets AR 230 and AR 228 briefly in rural Lawrence County before again crossing US 63. The route continues north to cross US 67 (Future I-57) before terminating at US 412 in Walnut Ridge. United States Route 412
U.S. Route 412 is an east–west United States highway, first commissioned in 1982. U.S. 412 overlaps expressway-grade Cimarron Turnpike from Tulsa west to Interstate 35 and the Cherokee Turnpike from east of Chouteau, Oklahoma, to west of the Arkansas state line. It runs the entire length of the Oklahoma Panhandle and traverses the Missouri Bootheel. , the highway's eastern terminus is in Columbia, Tennessee at an intersection with Interstate 65, where it continues east as State Route 99. Its western terminus is in Springer, New Mexico at an intersection with Interstate 25. The Spring River is a long river which flows through the U.S. states of Missouri and Arkansas. It consists of two branches, the South Fork of the Spring River and the Spring River proper. Imboden, Arkansas
Imboden is a city in Lawrence County, Arkansas, United States. The population was 677 at the 2010 census. It is named after a family of settlers. History The community was first settled around 1828 and was incorporated in 1887. In 1912, Imboden elected Joe Sullivan as the youngest elected mayor in the United States of that period. He was 21 years old and paralyzed, so relied on a goat-driven cart. He left the town in 1914 to pursue further education. Imboden has two public schools. Sloan-Hendrix School was established in 1899 as Sloan-Hendrix Academy, a private school affiliated with Hendrix College in Conway. It later became a public school.
