Arizona State Route 188
State Route 188 is a state highway located primarily in Gila County in the U.S. state of Arizona. Route description The route, also known as Apache Trail at its southern end, starts at U.S. Route 60 in Globe, just north of Claypool, and runs generally northwest to a junction with State Route 288, then continues alongside Roosevelt Lake. The route briefly enters Maricopa County, where it junctions with State Route 88, which takes over the Apache Trail designation to Apache Junction. SR 188 then re-enters Gila County, continuing through Tonto Basin and Punkin Center. The route originally followed a single-lane road down the canyon wall to the Theodore Roosevelt Dam, then crossed the dam to the other side of the canyon. A two-lane steel arch bridge upstream from the dam has now replaced this routing. State Route 188 ends at State Route 87 south of Rye. Theodore Roosevelt Lake
Theodore Roosevelt Lake (usually called Roosevelt Lake, sometimes Lake Roosevelt) is a large reservoir formed by Theodore Roosevelt Dam on the Salt River in Arizona as part of the Salt River Project (SRP). Located roughly 80 miles (130 km) northeast of Phoenix in the Salt River Valley, Theodore Roosevelt is the largest lake or reservoir located entirely within the state of Arizona ( Lake Mead and Lake Powell are larger but are both located partially within the bordering states of Nevada and Utah respectively). The reservoir and the masonry dam that created it, Roosevelt Dam, were both named after U.S. President Theodore Roosevelt who dedicated the dam himself in March 1911. Roosevelt is a census-designated place (CDP) in Gila County, Arizona, United States. The population was 28 at the 2010 census. Geography The CDP is located on the western edge of Gila County, on the south side of Theodore Roosevelt Lake, a reservoir on the Salt River. The western boundary of the CDP is the Maricopa County line. Arizona State Route 188 runs through Roosevelt, leading southeast to Globe, the Gila County seat, and northwest to Payson. Arizona State Route 88, the Apache Trail, has its northern terminus just west of Roosevelt at the Theodore Roosevelt Dam. The highway, which is unpaved for much of its distance, is a National Scenic Byway and leads southwest to Apache Junction at the eastern edge of the Phoenix area. State Route 260, also known as SR 260, is a long east–west major state highway in the north-central part of the U.S. state of Arizona. It connects State Route 89A in Cottonwood to U.S. Route 180 and U.S. Route 191 in Eagar. Young is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Gila County, Arizona, United States. The population was 666 as of the 2010 census, up from 561 in 2000. Geography Young is located in northeastern Gila County at (34.111688, -110.929208), along Arizona State Route 288 (which becomes Gila County 512 to the north). SR 288 is paved within and north of the town, totaling about of pavement, but there is no fully paved road connecting Young with other highways. Young is surrounded by the Tonto National Forest. There are two main roads in and out of Young, one north (from SR 260) and one south (from SR 188). State Route 288 heads north from Arizona State Route 188, State Route 188 near Roosevelt Lake. SR 288 ends at Young, Arizona, Young south of Arizona State Route 260, State Route 260. Currently, most of SR 288 is unpaved. Route description The southern terminus of SR 288 is located on SR 188 southeast of Theodore Roosevelt Lake. The highway heads north from this intersection through mountainous terrain as it heads towards Young. Portions of the highway are not paved and it does not intersect any other state highways other than SR 188 at its southern terminus. The northern terminus is located at an intersection with Chamberlain Trail in Young. The roadway continues on as a National Forest road. History The route was established in 1959 as a state route. Old Faithful Inn
The Old Faithful Inn is a hotel in the western United States with a view of the Old Faithful Geyser, located in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming. The Inn has a multi-story log lobby, flanked by long frame wings containing guest rooms. In the western portion of the park, it sits at an approximate elevation of above sea level.
