The National Historic Landmarks in Florida are representations of a broad sweep of history from Pre-Columbian times, through the Second Seminole War and Civil War, and the Space Age. There are 47 National Historic Landmarks (NHLs) in Florida,. which are located in twenty-two of the state's sixty-seven counties. Chokoloskee is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) located at the edge of the Ten Thousand Islands in Collier County, Florida, United States. The population was 359 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Naples–Marco Island Metropolitan Statistical Area. Chokoloskee was inhabited by Native Americans for at least 1500 years before European explorers first recorded visiting the island. It was briefly visited by Seminoles and the United States Army in the 1800s, and the current settlement can be traced back to 1874. Miles City is an unincorporated community in Collier County, Florida, United States, located near the intersection of the Alligator Alley portion of Interstate 75 and State Road 29. The community is part of the Naples– Marco Island Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name came from Miles Collier, son of area land owner Barron Collier.
