Citrus County is a county located on the west central coast of the U.S. state of Florida. As of the 2020 census, the population was 153,843. Its county seat is Inverness, and its largest community is Homosassa Springs. Citrus County comprises the Homosassa Springs, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The area covered by present-day Citrus County is thought to have been first occupied at least 10,000 years ago. About 2,500 years ago, mound-building Native Americans settled in the area and built the complex that now forms the Crystal River Archeological Site. The site was occupied for about 2,000 years. Crystal River is a city in Citrus County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,108 in the 2010 census. According to the U.S. Census estimates of 2018, the city had a population of 3,162. The city was incorporated in 1903 and is the self professed "Home of the Manatee". The community is home to the Floral City Heritage Hall Museum and hosts the Floral City Heritage Days the first weekend in December. Crystal River Preserve State Park is a Florida State Park, originally known as the Crystal River Buffer Preserve. The Preserve comprises 27,500 acres of salt marsh, tidal creeks, mangrove islands, hardwood forests, coastal scrub and pine flat woods. The Crystal River Preserve is a remnant of the Florida coastline that has changed little since the Europeans arrived more than 500 years ago. The following is a list of county roads in Citrus County, Florida. All county roads are maintained by the county in which they reside. County Road 39 County Road 39 is a tri-county continuation of the former SR 39General Highway Map, Citrus County, June 1969, reprinted June 1979 in Citrus County, however the designation exists in two sections; One in southeastern Citrus, and another in northern Citrus County. The first section of County Road 39 enters Pineola from Istachatta at the Hernando-Citrus County Line, where it resumes its designation as County Road 39 from County Road 439 (Hernando County, Florida). The road is named South Istachatta Road and it winds along the Withlacoochee State Trail, but eventually the trail moves to the northwest.
