Martin County ( es, Condado de Martín, link=) is a county located in the Treasure Coast region of the state of Florida, in the United States. As of the 2020 census, the population was 158,431. Its county seat is Stuart. Martin County is in the Port St. Lucie, FL Metropolitan Statistical Area. Port Mayaca (pronounced ''port my-ak-kuh)'' is a sparsely populated place located in western Martin County, Florida, United States, on the eastern side of Lake Okeechobee. Named for the Mayaca Tribe, Port Mayaca is centered just south of the Port Mayaca Lock and Dams on the Okeechobee Waterway (St. Lucie Canal) at the intersection of S.W. Kanner Highway, ( State Road 76), and S.W. Gaines Highway, ( State Road 15, which is signed as U.S. Route 441 and U.S. Route 98). There are few houses and businesses at this intersection. Jensen Beach is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Martin County, Florida, United States. The population was 12,652 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Port St. Lucie, Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area. History The history of Jensen Beach in the 19th century revolved around pineapple farming. John Laurence Jensen, an immigrant from Denmark, arrived in 1881, and set up his pineapple plantation, which became the town of Jensen. By 1894, the Florida East Coast Railway reached Jensen Beach, and freight shipments were loaded directly onto the freight cars. By 1895, Jensen was called the "Pineapple Capital of the World", shipping over one million boxes of pineapples each year during the June and July season. It is a rural community in the interior of Florida's Treasure Coast region, first established in the early 1900s, then incorporated on December 31, 2017.
