The National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) is the United States federal government's official list of districts, sites, buildings, structures and objects deemed worthy of preservation for their historical significance or "great artistic value". A property listed in the National Register, or located within a National Register Historic District, may qualify for tax incentives derived from the total value of expenses incurred in preserving the property. Edmonson County, Kentucky
Edmonson County is a county located in the south central portion of the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2020 census, the population was 12,126. Its county seat is Brownsville. The county was formed in 1825 and named for Captain John "Jack" Edmonson (1764–1813), who was killed at the Battle of Frenchtown during the War of 1812. This is a dry county where the sale of alcohol is prohibited. Edmonson County is included in the Bowling Green, Kentucky Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Edmonson County was established on January 12, 1825, from land given by Grayson, Hart and Warren counties. Kentucky Route 70 (KY 70) is a long east-east state highway that originates at a junction with U.S. Route 60 (US 60) in Smithland in Livingston County, just east of the Ohio River. The route continues through the counties of Crittenden, Caldwell, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Butler, Edmonson, Barren, Barren, Metcalfe, Green, Taylor, Casey, Pulaski, Lincoln and back into Pulaski again to terminate at a junction with US 150 near Maretburg in Rockcastle. Route description Livingston County Kentucky Route 70 begins in the Livingston County seat of Smithland, Kentucky, originating at a junction with U.S. Route 60 (US 60). It travels eastward to a junction with KY 866, and reaches a dead end at Tiline, along the Cumberland River. KY 70 does not connect from Tiline to Dycusburg since the ferry service at that point was discontinued in 1951. Munfordville, Kentucky
Munfordville is a home rule-class city in, and the county seat of, Hart County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,615 at the 2010 U.S. census. History The settlement was once known as "Big Buffalo Crossing". The current name came from Richard Jones Munford, who donated the land to establish the new county seat in 1816. Munfordville was incorporated in 1858. In 1862, the Civil War Battle of Munfordville took place in the town. Geography Munfordville is located in central Hart County at (37.276608, -85.897822), on the north side of the Green River. U.S. Route 31W is Munfordville's Main Street, while Interstate 65 passes just northwest of town, with access from Exit 65. I-65 leads north to Elizabethtown and southwest to Bowling Green.
