The National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) is the United States federal government's official list of districts, sites, buildings, structures and objects deemed worthy of preservation for their historical significance or "great artistic value". A property listed in the National Register, or located within a National Register Historic District, may qualify for tax incentives derived from the total value of expenses incurred in preserving the property. The passage of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) in 1966 established the National Register and the process for adding properties to it. Anson, Texas
Anson is a city in and the county seat of Jones County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,430 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Abilene, Texas metropolitan area. Originally named "Jones City", the town was renamed "Anson" in 1882 in honor of Anson Jones, the last president of the Republic of Texas. Geography Anson is located in central Jones County at (32.755529, −99.896301). Three U.S. highways pass through the city. U.S. Routes 83 and 277 run north–south through the center as Commercial Avenue, while U.S. Route 180 crosses on 17th Street. US 83 leads northwest to Aspermont, while US 277 leads northeast to Stamford, and the highways together lead southeast to Abilene. US 180 leads east to Albany and west to Snyder.
