Tompkins Township is a civil township of Jackson County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 2,671 at the 2010 census. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of , of which is land and (0.96%) is water. Tompkins Township is in northwestern Jackson County and is bordered to the north by Ingham County. State highway M-50 crosses the township, leading southeast to Jackson, the county seat, and northwest to Eaton Rapids. The Grand River crosses the northeastern portion of the township. Broken off from the western portion of Monroe County in 1826, Lenawee County was the eighth county formally organized in the Michigan Territory (later the state of Michigan in 1837). With an estimated population at approximately 100,800, Lenawee County is ranked 21st in population of Michigan's 83 counties. List Of National Historic Landmarks In Michigan
The National Historic Landmarks in Michigan represent Michigan's history from pre-colonial days through World War II, and encompasses several landmarks detailing the state's automotive, maritime and mining industries. There are 43 National Historic Landmarks (NHL) in the state, located in 18 of its 83 counties. The landmarks also cover sites of military significance, such as Fort Michilimackinac, religious significance, such as the St. Ignace Mission, and cultural significance, such as the Fox Theater and Ernest Hemingway's boyhood summer cottage. In addition, two previously designated landmarks have lost that status due to the demolition of the sites.
