Grant County is a county in the U.S. state of Arkansas. Its population was 17,853 at the 2010 United States Census. The county seat is Sheridan. Grant County is included in the Little Rock–North Little Rock– Conway, AR Metropolitan Statistical Area. History Formed on February 4, 1869, Grant County was named in honor of U.S. President-elect Ulysses S. Grant. It is an alcohol prohibition or dry county. Robert W. Glover, a Missionary Baptist pastor who served in both houses of the Arkansas General Assembly (1905-1912) from Sheridan, introduced in 1909 the resolution calling for the establishment of four state agricultural colleges. Sheridan, Arkansas
Sheridan is a city and county seat of Grant County, Arkansas, United States. The community is located deep in the forests of the Arkansas Timberlands. It sits at the intersection of US Highways 167 and 270. Early settlers were drawn to the area by the native timber, which is still a very important part of Sheridan's economy, although the city has diversified into several other industries. Sheridan's history also includes a college, Missionary Baptist College, until its closure in 1934, and a series of conflicts during the Civil Rights Movement. Arkansas Highway 46
Highway 46 (AR 46, Ark. 46, and Hwy. 46) is a state highway in South Arkansas. The route begins at AR 9 and runs east to White Bluff Road near Redfield. The highway was created during the 1926 Arkansas highway numbering and extended throughout the 1970s. The route is maintained by the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ArDOT). A portion of the route is designated as an Arkansas Heritage Trail for its use by both armies during the Camden Expedition of the Civil War. Camden Expedition Sites
The Camden Expedition Sites is a national historic landmark consisting of nine nationally significant historic places in southwest Arkansas where events of the Union army's disastrous Camden Expedition of 1864 occurred during the American Civil War. The Union was attempting to take over Shreveport, Louisiana. Each of the sites are individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was designated a national historic landmark on April 19, 1994. The National Park Service (NPS) nomination refers to nine sites, yet only eight of them are listed by name.
