Puebloan Peoples
The Puebloans or Pueblo peoples, are Native Americans in the Southwestern United States who share common agricultural, material, and religious practices. Currently 100 pueblos are actively inhabited, among which Taos, San Ildefonso, Acoma, Zuni, and Hopi are the best-known. Pueblo people speak languages from four different language families, and each Pueblo is further divided culturally by kinship systems and agricultural practices, although all cultivate varieties of maize. Pueblo peoples have lived in the American Southwest for millennia and descend from Ancestral Pueblo peoples. The term ''Anasazi'' is sometimes used to refer to ancestral Pueblo people but it is now largely minimized. Ticaboo, Utah
Ticaboo ( ) is an unincorporated community in far southeastern Garfield County, Utah, United States. Description The community lies along State Route 276, more than east of Panguitch, the county seat of Garfield County. Its elevation is . It has a post office with the ZIP code 84533. Ticaboo gets its name from Ticaboo Creek, which was named by Cass Hite in the 1880s, from a Paiute word meaning "friendly". History The Ticaboo townsite is a master-planned community that was organized in the late 1970s to both provide housing to the then booming uranium mining industry in southeastern Garfield County, and tap into the tourism potential of nearby Lake Powell. Utah State Route 276
State Route 276 is a state highway in remote portions of San Juan County, eastern Garfield County, and Kane County, in the southeast of the U.S. state of Utah. The route is used as an access to Lake Powell, serving the small resort towns of Ticaboo and Bullfrog. Historically, SR-276 crossed Lake Powell via the Charles Hall Ferry (originally called the John Atlantic Burr Toll Ferry), the only auto ferry in the state of Utah; however, the ferry is currently out of service due to low water levels. The entire route is part of the Trail of the Ancients National Scenic Byway. Lake Powell separates the route into two sections; the eastern section was numbered State Route 263 prior to the existence of the ferry. Torrey, Utah
Torrey is a town located on State Route 24 in Wayne County, Utah, United States, from Capitol Reef National Park. As of the 2010 census, the town had a population of 182. History The town was established in the 1880s by settlers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and was initially known as Youngtown, after John Willard Young. The town is generally held to be named after Jay L. Torrey from Pittsfield, Illinois. Torrey was a member of the Wyoming legislature, who, upon the advent of the Spanish–American War, achieved national attention by proposing the creation of what became three volunteer cavalry regiments, made up of cowboys and stockmen. Canyonlands National Park is an American national park located in southeastern Utah near the town of Moab. The park preserves a colorful landscape eroded into numerous canyons, mesas, and buttes by the Colorado River, the Green River, and their respective tributaries. Cannonville is a town in Garfield County, Utah, United States, along Utah Scenic Byway 12. As of the 2010 census, the population was 167, up from 148 at the 2000 census. History Cannonville was laid out in 1874. A post office called Cannonville was established in 1879, and remained in operation until 1966. The community bears the name of George Q.
