Absarokee ( ) is a census-designated place (CDP) in Stillwater County, Montana, United States, approximately south of Columbus on Highway 78. It is named after the Crow Indians who formerly inhabited the land. The population was 1,234 at the 2000 census. The Stillwater Mine, operated by the Stillwater Mining Company, is located near Absarokee. Name The name Absarokee is derived from ''Apsáalookěi'', the name given to the Crow Indian Tribe by the related Hidatsa people with ''Apsáa'' meaning "large-beaked bird" and ''lookěi'' meaning "children". ''Apsáalookěi'' thus literally means "children of the large-beaked bird". (The name "Crow" comes from the French ''gens du corbeaux'' or "people of the crows" as ''Apsáalookěi ''was translated by French fur traders in 1743.) Park City, Montana
Park City is a census-designated place (CDP) in Stillwater County, Montana, United States. The population was 870 at the 2000 census. Located 20 miles from the state's largest city, Billings, Park City has a small town atmosphere. The largest building in the city is Park City Schools, a K-12 education system. The school's mascot is the panther and school colors are red and black. It is not incorporated, therefore does not have a mayor or any other "city" legislative positions. Most of the historical buildings are made of sandstone, due to the large sandstone cliffs to the north of the town. The town has a library, school, fire department, two gas stations/convenience stores, three churches of different denominations as well as two bars. The town serves as a bedroom community for the neighboring cities of Laurel and Billings. Most inhabitants are employed in either of those two towns. Nye, Montana
Nye is an unincorporated community in Stillwater County, Montana, Stillwater County, Montana, United States. As of 2010 United States Census, 2010, the population was 272. Demographics History Originally a copper mining camp, the town sprang into existence when Jack Nye and the Hedges brothers staked their claim. Mining continues to be an important part of the area's economy. Nye's first post office was established on October 6, 1887, with Thomas Ross as its first postmaster. The post office is a contract post office and serves a large land area including all residents beyond the building at 2027 Nye Road (Carters Camp). The Minnesota Mining and Smelting Company built a copper smelter here in 1889, but it was shut down when it was discovered that they were illegally on the Crow Indian Reservation. Columbus is a town in and the county seat of Stillwater County, Montana, United States. The population was 1,857 at the 2020 census. History The community originated as a stagecoach station on the Yellowstone River.
