The following is a list of National Register of Historic Places listings in Lapeer County, Michigan. Lapeer County was founded in 1822 and has a current estimated population of almost 90,000. It is officially listed as part of Metro Detroit with Lapeer as a county seat. The county currently contains 24 properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Goodland Township, Michigan
Goodland Township is a civil township of Lapeer County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,828 at the 2010 census. The historic Younge Site is located within the township. Communities * Goodland is an unincorporated community in the township on M-53 at . James Hills was the first white settler here in 1851, although he soon moved elsewhere. Hills is said to have recommended the name "Goodland" when the township was organized in 1855. A post office was opened on July 11, 1856 with John C. Marris as the first postmaster. Lapeer ( ') is a city in the U.S. state of Michigan and is the county seat of Lapeer County. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 8,841. Most of the city was incorporated from land that was formerly in Lapeer Township, though portions were also annexed from Mayfield Township and Elba Township. Lapeer is in southern Michigan, east of Flint, on the Flint River. History By an ordinance of the Congress of the United States passed on July 13, 1787, the area lying northwest of the Ohio River, though still occupied by the British, was organized as the Northwest Territory. Lapeer County was once part of the Northwest Territory. North Branch, Michigan
North Branch is a village in Lapeer County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,033 at the 2010 census. The village is located within North Branch Township. History In 1854 the earliest settling of North Branch was undertaken. The founding fathers were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Beach and Mr. and Mrs. George Simmons. The nucleus of the village was the post office, store and trading post founded by John and Richard Beach. The Village was incorporated in 1881, and at the time, the population was 900. The town of North Branch sits on the north branch of the Flint River which flows through the township and is the principal waterway. The main thoroughfare is Huron Street. Two major fires mark the history of North Branch. The Great Michigan Fire in 1871 and the Thumb Fire in 1881 destroyed many parts of the town. M-24 (Michigan Highway)
M-24 is a north–south state trunkline highway in the U.S. state of Michigan that extends through Southeast Michigan and The Thumb, from northeast Auburn Hills to Unionville. It starts at an interchange with Interstate 75 (I-75) and ends where it merges with M-25. While the M-24 designation is similar to that of US Highway 24 (US 24) which has a northern terminus located only a few miles from the southern terminus of M-24, M-24 was never part of US 24. The first M-24 in Michigan was replaced by M-20 when US 10 replaced the original M-20 in 1926. A 1936 bypass of downtown Pontiac resulted in the creation of M-24A which later became BUS M-24 in 1940. An extension in 1997 moved the northern end of M-24 northward from Caro to Unionville, replacing a section of M-138 in the process.
