Pelzer, South Carolina
Pelzer is a town in Anderson County in South Carolina, United States, along the Saluda River. The population was 89 at the 2010 census. Government As of 2010 the town was governed by a mayor and four council members. The current Mayor is William Ragland. History Pelzer was founded in the 19th century as a mill town around several mill sites (the Lower Mill and the Upper Mill) on the Saluda River developed by the Pelzer Manufacturing Company. The first (lower) mill was completed in 1882; two additional expansions were referred to as mills 2 and 3, with construction of the 4th mill (the upper mill) starting in 1896. Pelzer Manufacturing drew power from two dams built along the Saluda River, which generated power with the help of the first generators ever sold by General Electric. Belton, South Carolina
Belton is a city in eastern Anderson County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 4,134 at the 2010 census. History In 1845 a group was created to connect the Piedmont region of South Carolina by rail to the existing rail system which then ran from Columbia to Charleston. The expanded rail line ran through what was to become Belton, with a spur line which ran to the nearby town of Anderson. Because of the population explosion that occurred by the time the railroad had been completed in 1853, the state incorporated the town in 1855, with the boundaries being located within a half mile radius from the new railroad depot. The city was given the name of Belton after the first president of the Columbia and Greenville Railroad from Newberry, John Belton O'Neal. The city prospered not only due to the railroad junction, but also because of the area's cotton crop, which led to the establishment of cotton mills. Pendleton is a town in Anderson County, South Carolina, United States. The population was 3,489 at the 2020 census. It is a sister city of Stornoway in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. South Carolina Highway 88 (SC 88) is a state highway in northern Anderson County, South Carolina with a brief entry into southern Pickens County, connecting Pendleton and areas south of Powdersville. It is sometimes considered an alternate route for U.S. Route 123 (US 123). Route description The route travels generally in a west–east direction, signed to begin at an intersection with SC 28 Business (SC 28 Bus.; North Mechanic Street) in downtown Pendleton. However, SCDOT designates the western terminus to not start until North Broad Street a few blocks later. East of Pendleton, SC 88 travels through somewhat rural areas and has a roundabout intersection with US 178.
