Miguel Sáenz Sagaseta de Ilúrdoz (Larache, Spanish Morocco, 1932) is a Spanish translator. Biography Born in colonial Morocco, he was son of a military officer. He studied German philology at the Complutense University of Madrid. He specialized in translating German authors into Spanish: Bertolt Brecht, Günter Grass, W. G. Sebald, Thomas Bernhard (of whom he also wrote a biography). He has also translated from English: William Faulkner, Henry Roth, Salman Rushdie. Esther is the eponymous heroine of the Book of Esther. In the Achaemenid Empire, the Persian king Ahasuerus seeks a new wife after his queen, Vashti, is deposed for disobeying him. Hadassah, a Jewess who goes by the name of Esther, is chosen to fulfill this role due to her beauty. Ahasuerus' grand vizier, Haman, is offended by Esther's cousin and guardian, Mordecai, due to his refusal to prostrate himself before Haman. Consequently, Haman plots to have all the Jewish subjects of Persia killed, and convinces Ahasuerus to permit him to do so. However, Esther foils the plan by revealing Haman's eradication plans to Ahasuerus, who then has Haman executed and grants permission to the Jews to kill their enemies instead, as royal edicts (including the order for eradication issued by Haman) cannot be revoked under Persian law. Ángel Crespo
Ángel Crespo (18 July 1926 in Alcolea de Calatrava, Province of Ciudad Real – 12 December 1995 in Barcelona) was one of Spain's most significant poets and translators of the second half of the twentieth century. Crespo was the author of over thirty books of poetry. He also published over twenty books of translations (ranging from the work of Dante and Petrarch to that of Fernando Pessoa and Eugénio de Andrade) and numerous works of literary criticism. Clara Janés Nadal, born in Barcelona (6 November 1940), is a Spanish writer of several literary genres. She is recognised as a poet and is distinguished as a translator of different central European and eastern languages. Since 2015, she has occupied a seat in the Real Academia Española becoming the tenth woman elected as a member of the RAE. Valentín García Yebra (Lombillo de Los Barrios, Ponferrada, León, 28 April 1917 – Madrid, 13 December 2010), was a Spanish philologist, translator and translation scholar. Biography He studied Arts at Madrid where he graduated in Classical Philology (1944), then he got his doctoral degree with his thesis ''Las traducciones latinas de la metafísica de Aristóteles''. After a long career as professor and scholar, in 1974 he boosted the creation of a Translation Institute at the Universidad Complutense, where he delivered lectures in Translation Theory.
