National Neighborhood Watch Program
The United States National Neighborhood Watch Program (formerly known as USAonWatch.org) is a neighborhood watch program run under Citizen Corps that focuses on residential areas through citizen involvement. Originally developed in the late 1960s, the National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) officially created the National Neighborhood Watch Program in 1972 to assist citizens and law enforcement. In 2002, the National Sheriffs' Association in cooperation with USA Freedom Corps, Citizen Corps and the U.S. Department of Justice launched USAonWatch, now renamed National Neighborhood Watch to expand the National Neighborhood Watch initiative beyond its original crime prevention role to assisting and preparing neighborhoods for disasters and with emergency response. Neighborhood Watch
A neighborhood watch or neighbourhood watch (see spelling differences), also called a crime watch or neighbourhood crime watch, is an organized group of civilians devoted to crime and vandalism prevention within a neighborhood. The aim of neighborhood watch includes educating residents of a community on security and safety and achieving safe and secure neighborhoods. However, when a criminal activity is suspected, members are encouraged to report to authorities, and not to intervene. In the United States, neighborhood watch builds on the concept of a ''town watch'' from Colonial America. National Sheriffs' Association
The National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) is a U.S. trade association. Its stated purpose is to raise the level of professionalism among U.S. Sheriff#United States, sheriffs, their deputies and others in the fields of criminal justice and public safety. Since its founding in 1940, NSA has been the advocacy organization for the nation's sheriffs in Washington, D.C. Citizen Corps
Citizen Corps is a program under the Department of Homeland Security that provides training for the population of the United States to assist in the recovery after a disaster or terrorist attack. Each local Citizen Corps Council partners with organizations, volunteers and businesses to organize responders, volunteers and professional first responders for an efficient response so efforts are not wasted by being duplicated. By training in Incident Command, volunteers know whom to report to and how the incident is organized. This prevents sites from being inundated by untrained and unprepared personnel preventing operation. Citizen Corps also works in conjunction with the Corporation for National and Community Service in promoting national service opportunities for promoting homeland security needs. Bureau Of Justice Assistance
The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) is a component of the Office of Justice Programs, within the United States Department of Justice. BJA provides leadership and assistance to local criminal justice programs that improve and reinforce the nation's criminal justice system. Deputy Director Tracey Trautman was named as Acting Director of the Bureau of Justice Assistance from January to December of 2017, before President Donald Trump appointed Jon Adler to the Director role in December 2017. The Office of Justice Programs (OJP) is an agency of the United States Department of Justice that focuses on crime prevention through research and development, assistance to state, local, and tribal criminal justice agencies, including law enforcement, corrections, and juvenile justice through grants and assistance to crime victims.
