The (Portuguese language, Portuguese for ''National Library of Portugal'') is the Portugal, Portuguese national library, fulfilling the function of Legal deposit, legal deposit and copyright. History The library was created by Decree of 29 February 1796, under the name of Royal Public Library of the Court ( pt, Real Biblioteca Pública da Corte). The library's objective was to allow the general public access to the court's collections, thus bucking the trend of the time only available to scholars and sages could access the treasures, manuscripts, paintings, and books of the royal court. Fernando Pessoa
Fernando António Nogueira Pessoa (; 13 June 1888 – 30 November 1935) was a Portuguese poet, writer, literary critic, translator, publisher, and philosopher, described as one of the most significant literary figures of the 20th century and one of the greatest poets in the Portuguese language. He also wrote in and translated from English and French. Pessoa was a prolific writer, and not only under his own name, for he created approximately seventy-five others, of which three stand out, Alberto Caeiro, Álvaro de Campos, and Ricardo Reis. In Portugal, the first open access initiatives were carried out by the University of Minho with the creation of RepositóriUM in 2003 and the definition of an institutional policy of self-archiving in 2004. The National Archive of Torre do Tombo ( pt, Arquivo Nacional da Torre do Tombo, ) is the Portuguese national archive located in the civil parish of Alvalade, in the municipality of central-northern Lisbon. Established in 1378, it was renamed the Instituto dos Arquivos Nacionais (''Institute of the National Archives'') in 2009. Raul Proença (May 10, 1884 – May 20, 1941) was a Portuguese writer, journalist, and intellectual. Born in Caldas da Rainha, Proença earned a degree in economic and financial sciences from the Instituto Industrial e Comercial de Lisboa. He was a founder of the magazine ''Seara Nova''.
