National League A (Floorball)
The Lidl Unihockey Prime League is the highest league in Swiss floorball. Between the season 2007/08 and 2012/13 the league was called ''Swiss Mobiliar League'' (SML). It was named after the insurance company ''Mobiliar''. Since the Season 2022/23 it is called Lidl Unihockey Prime League (L-UPL). Prior to 2007 and between 2013 and 2022 it was called Nationalliga A (NLA). The men's L-UPL is composed of twelve teams and the women's league of ten teams (eight until season 2016/17). The lower league is called National League B (Floorball), National League B. The champions of both leagues are eligible to compete at the Champions Cup (floorball), Champions Cup. National League B (Floorball)
The National League B is the second highest league in Swiss floorball. The men's NLB is composed of 12 teams and the women's league of 10 teams. Champions Cup (floorball)
The Champions Cup is floorball tournament organized by the International Floorball Federation for the best clubs from the top four countries according to IFF World Ranking. As of 2023, those are Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Switzerland, both for men and women. The tournament takes place every year in January both for men's and women's teams, that won in the previous season in their national leagues. Those are Finnish F-liiga, Swedish Swedish Super League (men's floorball), Svenska Superligan, Czech men's Superliga florbalu and women's Extraliga žen ve florbale and Swiss Lidl Unihockey Prime League (Floorball), Unihockey Prime League. That means, there are eight teams in the tournament in total. Since 2024, winners of national cups will also attend. The competing countries alternate in hosting the tournament. Floorball Competitions In Switzerland
Floorball is a type of floor hockey with five players and a goalkeeper in each team. Men and women play indoors with sticks and a plastic ball with holes. Matches are played in three twenty-minute periods. The sport of bandy also played a role in the game's development. The game was invented in Sweden in the late 1960s. The basic rules were established in 1979 when the first floorball club in the world, Sala IBK, from Sala, was founded in Sweden. Official rules for matches were first written down in 1981.
