National Hockey Centre (Canberra)
The National Hockey Centre, is a government owned outdoor field hockey stadium located in Lyneham, a northern suburb of Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. It offers three international standard water-based hockey pitches which are used for both international and domestic competition, as well as training activities. The stadium is home to the Canberra Chill men's and women's hockey teams in Hockey Australia's premier domestic league, the Sultana Bran Hockey One League. Facilities Pitches The National Hockey Centre features three international level synthetic pitches. These include the main pitch, ''Carter Field'' and two secondary pitches, ''Powell Field'' and ''Watt Field''. Lyneham, Australian Capital Territory
Lyneham () is a suburb of Canberra, Australia in the North Canberra district. It is named after Sir William Lyne, premier of New South Wales from 1899 to 1901. The suburb name was gazetted in 1928, but development did not commence until 1958. The streets of Lyneham are named after artists and people associated with the development of early Canberra. Australia Women's National Field Hockey Team
The Australia women's national field hockey team (nicknamed the Hockeyroos) are, as of January 2019, ranked third in the world. Having played their first game in 1914, and their first Olympic game in 1984, they are one of Australia's most successful sporting teams, boasting three Olympic gold medals (1988, 1996, 2000), two World Cup gold medals (1994, 1998) and four Commonwealth Games gold medals (1998, 2006, 2010, 2014). The 2019 Women's Sultana Bran Hockey One was the inaugural women's edition of Hockey Australia's national league, ''Hockey One''. The tournament was held across 7 states and territories of Australia. The tournament started on 29 September and culminated on 16 November 2019. The grand final of the tournament was hosted by HC Melbourne, as the top ranked team to qualify for the final. Brisbane Blaze won the tournament after defeating HC Melbourne 3–2 in a penalty shoot-out after the final finished as a 1–1 draw. Adelaide Fire finished in bronze position, following results from the pool stage. The 2015 Men's Under 21 Australian Hockey Championships was a men's Field Hockey tournament held in the Australian Capital Territory city of Canberra.
