National Film Award For Best Art Direction
The National Film Award for Best Production Design is one of the National Film Awards presented annually by the Directorate of Film Festivals, the organisation set up by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, India. It is one of several awards presented for feature films and awarded with Rajat Kamal (Silver Lotus). The award was instituted in 1979, at 27th National Film Awards as National Film Award for Best Art Direction, and awarded annually for films produced in the year across the country, in all Indian languages; Hindi (18 awards), Tamil (6 awards), Malayalam (6 awards), Bengali (3 awards), Kannada, Urdu, English, Marathi (two each), Telugu, Gujarati, Punjabi, Konkani (one Each). The Cinema of India consists of motion pictures produced in India, which had a large effect on world cinema since the late 20th century. 57th National Film Awards
The 57th National Film Awards, presented by Directorate of Film Festivals, the organisation set up by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, India to felicitate the best of Indian Cinema released in the year 2009. Three different committees were instituted in order to judge the various entries for feature film, non-feature film and best writing on cinema sections; headed by National award winner director, Ramesh Sippy, for feature films and Mike Pandey along with Samik Bandyopadhyay for non-feature films and best writing on cinema sections, respectively. Another committee of five members was also constituted for the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. ''Umrao Jaan'' is a 1981 Indian period musical drama film directed by Muzaffar Ali and starring Rekha as the eponymous character. Based on the 1905 Urdu novel ''Umrao Jaan Ada'', the film tells the story of a Lucknow courtesan and her rise to fame. Plot In the year 1840, a girl named Amiran is kidnapped from her family in Faizabad and sold to Khanum Jaan, the madam of a brothel in Lucknow who teaches young courtesans. The duo are also practising architects. It is based on the true life story of the assassination of British Government officers Walter Charles Rand ICS and Lt. Charles Egerton Ayerst by the Chapekar brothers. Thota Tharani is an Indian film art director and production designer who has predominantly worked in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam cinema and Bollywood.
