National Employer Service
The National Employer Service (NES) was a service of the Learning and Skills Council which became the Skills Funding Agency. Its purpose was to offer specialist advice and funding for further education to national, multi-site employers with more than 5000 employees. The service worked with 150 companies including BT Group, Sainsbury's, Tesco and McDonald's. First established in 2003 as the National Contracting Service, its role evolved from centrally delivering government funding towards working in partnership with large employers, providing specialist advice on the development of large scale work-based training programmes. This co-investment approach to frontline training involved channeling public investment to areas where it delivered the greatest value for money. In a speech on the subject, the then Conservative party leader David Cameron incorrectly identified the National Employer Service as a Quango in its own right. The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) was a non-departmental public body jointly sponsored by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) and the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) in England. It closed on 31 March 2010 and was replaced by the Skills Funding Agency and the Young People's Learning Agency. History The LSC was established in April 2001, under the Learning and Skills Act 2000. Qualifications And Curriculum Authority
The Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency (QCDA) was a charity, and an executive non-departmental public body (NDPB) of the Department for Education. In England and Northern Ireland, the QCDA maintained and developed the National Curriculum and associated assessments, tests and examinations, advising the minister formerly known as the Secretary of State for Education on these matters. The National Apprenticeship Service (NAS), part of the Education and Skills Funding Agency, is a government agency that coordinates apprenticeships in England, enabling young people to enter the skilled trades. Skills Funding Agency
The Skills Funding Agency was one of two successor organisations that emerged from the closure in 2010 of the Learning and Skills Council (England's largest non-departmental public body or quango). The agency was in turn replaced by the Education and Skills Funding Agency in 2017.
