National Drugs Intelligence Unit
The National Drugs Intelligence Unit (NDIU) is a British police service providing law enforcement agencies with information and intelligence about criminal activity. Its functions as defined in statute are to "gather, store and analyse information in order to provide criminal intelligence". History The first unit tasked with dealing with international crime focused on illicit drugs to be formed in the UK was during the latter parts of the 1970s and consisted of officers from the Association of Chief Police Officers, customs officers and Interpol Drug Enforcement Administration. The unit was created without consulting parliament. During 1985 a National coordinator was appointed by the Home office, this person was subsequently involved in the transition from the Central Drugs Intelligence Unite to the NDIU. Association Of Chief Police Officers
The Association of Chief Police Officers of England, Wales and Northern Ireland (ACPO) was a not-for-profit private limited company that for many years led the development of policing practices in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Established in 1948, ACPO provided a forum for chief police officers to share ideas and coordinate their strategic operational responses, and advised government in matters such as Terrorism in the UK, terrorist attacks and civil emergencies. ACPO coordinated national police operations, major investigations, cross-border policing, and joint law enforcement. ACPO designated Senior Investigative Officers for major investigations and appointed officers to head ACPO units specialising in various areas of policing and crime reduction. National Criminal Intelligence Service
The National Criminal Intelligence Service (NCIS) was a United Kingdom policing agency. Following the Police and Criminal Justice Act 2001, NCIS returned to direct funding by the Home Office in 2002 and was a non-departmental public body. On 1 April 2006 it was merged into the newly created Serious Organised Crime Agency. The unit was established in April 1992, previously known as the National Drugs Intelligence Unit. Organised according to the Police Act 1997, the functions of NCIS were to gather intelligence data and analysed this information to provide the necessary insight and intelligence to national police forces. The act also empowered the service with rights to perform surveillance operations. Organisation of the service included units specialising in organised crimes and crimes involving illicit drugs, football and financial issues. Peter Clarke (police Officer)
Peter John Michael Clarke, CVO, OBE, QPM (born 27 July 1955) is a retired senior police officer with London's Metropolitan Police most notably having served as a Deputy Assistant Commissioner with the Specialist Operations directorate, commanding the Counter Terrorism Command. The United States National Drug Intelligence Center (NDIC), established in 1993, was a component of the U.S. Department of Justice and a member of the United States Intelligence Community, Intelligence Community. ThGeneral Counterdrug Intelligence Plan implemented in February 2000, designated NDIC as the nation's principal center for strategic domestic counterdrug intelligence.
