Montserrat ( ) is a British Overseas Territories, British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean. It is part of the Leeward Islands, the northern portion of the Lesser Antilles chain of the West Indies. Montserrat is about long and wide, with roughly of coastline. It is nicknamed "The Emerald Isle of the Caribbean" both for its resemblance to coastal Ireland and for the Irish diaspora, Irish ancestry of many of its inhabitants. Montserrat is the only non-fully sovereign full member of the Caribbean Community and the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States. The Movement for National Reconstruction (MNR) was a political party in Montserrat led by Bertrand Osborne. History Osborne had previously been leader of the National Development Party, which won a single seat in the 1991 elections. However, by the 1996 elections he had established the MNR.
