National Dance Awards 2009
The National Dance Awards 2009, were organised by The Critics' Circle, and presented to recognise excellence in professional dance in the United Kingdom. The ceremony was held in the Paul Hamlyn Hall of the Royal Opera House, London, on 21 January 2010, with awards given for productions staged in the previous year. National Dance Awards
The National Dance Awards are presented annually in the United Kingdom by The Critics' Circle, and are awarded to recognise excellence in professional dance. They are widely regarded as the most prestigious award presented for dance in the UK, and are considered to be the equivalent of the Laurence Olivier Awards, which are presented for general theatre. Overview The National Dance Awards (NDAs), were first presented by The Critics' Circle at the Coliseum Theatre, London, in 2001. The key sponsor of the event was the late Richard Sherrington and an award is now presented in his name every year. Since the first ceremony, the awards have also been hosted by the Royal Opera House and Sadler's Wells Theatre, with both organisations providing sponsorship for the event. Christopher Bruce
Christopher Bruce (born 3 October 1945 in Leicester) is a British choreographer and performer. He was the Artistic Director of the Rambert Dance Company until 2002. He has choreographed many pieces from Andrew Lloyd-Webber/ Alan Ayckbourn musical Jeeves at Her Majesty's Theatre, London in 1975. In addition to performing and choreographing, he has created many works for Rambert and for Nederlands Dans Theater, Houston Ballet and Cullberg Ballet and has had a long-term association with the English National Ballet and the Houston Ballet. His works include Cruel Garden, Ghost Dances, Sergeant Early's Dream, Swansong, Moonshine, Stream, Shadows, Quicksilver, The World Again, Symphony in Three Movements, Land and Rooster. Angelina Ballerina
''Angelina Ballerina'' is a children's book series by author Katharine Holabird and illustrator Helen Craig about a fictional mouse (full name Angelina Jeanette Mouseling) who is training to become a ballerina. The first book in the series was published in 1983, and since then there have been over twenty books in the series. The series is set in Chipping Cheddar, a place that is similar to 1920s London, and is inhabited by anthropomorphic mice. The name "Angelina" was inspired by an editor named Angela at Aurum Press. New Adventures
New Adventures is a British dance-theatre company. Founded by choreographer Matthew Bourne in 2001, the company developed from an earlier company Adventures in Motion Pictures, now dissolved. History Adventures in Motion Pictures (AMP) was established in 1987 by a group of students from London's Laban Centre, including Matthew Bourne, Catherine White (now Malone), Emma Gladstone, Susan Lewis, Carrollynne Antoun, David Massingham and Keith Brazil. AMP's productions like ''Spitfire'' (1988), parodied the manners of romantic ballet dancers. Esteban Berlanga
Esteban Berlanga is a Spanish ballet dancer and a principal dancer with the Compañía Nacional de Danza, Madrid. Biography Esteban Berlanga was born in Motilleja, a village of 600 inhabitants near Albacete, Spain. He initially wanted to become a flamenco dancer as he did not know what classical ballet was at the time. He started his training at the at the age of 9. At the age of 16, he moved on to the to continue his studies, before joining the corps de ballet of Europa Danse in 2003. The Dresden Frankfurt Dance Company is a contemporary dance ensemble of eighteen dancers based in Dresden and Frankfurt, Germany. It was founded in 2005 as The Forsythe Company by American choreographer William Forsythe following the closure of the Frankfurt Ballet (german: Ballett Frankfurt, link=no), established in 1963.
