The National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL) is an American political organization composed of African Americans elected to state legislatures in the United States and its territories. Background NBCSL was founded in 1977 after a group of about eighteen African American state legislators, attending the annual meeting of the National Conference of State Legislatures and perceiving that the NCSL was still "racially exclusive" at that time, decided to call for a national conference in Nashville, Tennessee.Tyson King-Meadows, Thomas F. The Indiana Black Legislative Caucus is an American political organization composed of African Americans elected to the Indiana General Assembly. Role By drafting and sponsoring legislation to address constituent needs and by examining all bills that affect the minority populace, the Caucus acts as a legislative body on behalf of the minority community. Kenneth Dunkin (born February 12, 1966), commonly known as Ken Dunkin, is an American politician. He is currently an appointed member of the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District Board of Commissioners. Dunkin previously served as a Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives, representing the 5th District from December 2002 until January 2017. The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus is the caucus of African-American members of the Georgia General Assembly. It was established in 1975, and is currently the largest caucus of black state legislators in the country in terms of members. Alan B. Williams (born March 22, 1975) is a Democratic politician from the U.S. state of Florida. He served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2008 to 2016, representing a district based in Gadsden County and Tallahassee in Leon County. Holly J. Mitchell (born September 7, 1964) is an American politician currently serving as a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
