National Academy For Prisons Administration
National Academy for Prisons Administration (NAPA) formerly known as Central Jail Staff Training Institute (CJSTI) ( ur, ) is a Federal Government's training institute for prison staff of all four provinces of Pakistan. It operates under Ministry of Interior, Government of Pakistan. The Academy is situated on Ferozepur Road in Lahore, Pakistan and is adjacent to District Jail Lahore. Address: NAPA, Camp Jail, Shama Chawk, Ferozpour Road, Lahore. This National Academy for Prisons Administration (NAPA), Lahore is working under the Ministry of Interior, Government of Pakistan to fulfill Function No.28 of Rules of Business of the Interior Division read with SL#16 of the Federal Legislative List of the Constitution of Islamic Republic of Pakistan. Central Jail Mianwali
Central Jail Mianwali is an old and historical jail in Mianwali, Punjab, Pakistan located on Rawalpindi road nearly 8 kilometers away from Mianwali city. It is noted for housing a number of prominent prisoners, the most notable of these being Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman during the Bangladesh Liberation War. History Mianwali Jail was constructed in 1904 with 293 prisoners in the Jail and was elevated as District jail in 1913. The inmates' population in 1913 was 228. Inside jail hospital crude death rate in 1911 was 6.49%. Major portion of the jail consists of muddy barracks and cell-blocks plastered with clay. In 1911, 364 prisoners remained admitted in the jail hospital, in 1912, 357 prisoners and in 1913, 516 prisoners. Prisons In Pakistan
Prisons in Pakistan and their administration, is a Provincial competency under the Constitution of Pakistan. Pakistan has the 23rd largest prison population in the world and the 5th largest death row population. Around 64.5% of prisoners are awaiting trial prisoners. 98.6% of prisoners are male, 1.7% are juveniles and 1.2% of those held are foreign citizens. As of 2018 Pakistan had an official occupancy capacity for 56,499 prisoners but held 80,145 prisoners. Types of prisons The most common and standard jail institutions are Central Jails, District Jails and Sub Jails. The other types of jail establishments are Women Jails, Borstal Schools, Open Jails and Special Jails. List of Prisons There are 99 operational prisons with an authorized capacity of 45,210 inmates.
