Nathan Wood (cricketer)
Nathan Theodore Wood (born 4 October 1974) is a former English cricketer. Wood was a left-handed batsman who bowled right-arm medium. He was born at Thornhill Edge, Yorkshire. Domestic playing career Young England Wood represented Young England at U14, U15 and U17 levels, and played in 4 Youth Tests and a Youth One Day International for England Under-19s in 1993 against the West Indies and in 1994 against Sri Lanka. Wood toured twice with the England U18's to South Africa and Denmark, and once with the England U19's to Sri Lanka scoring 53 in the First Test at Columbo and sharing a century opening stand with Michael Vaughan. Lancashire C.C.C Wood joined the Old Trafford playing staff in 1992 making his second XI debut against Kent, and was a member of the 1997 County Championship winning side. Thornhill, West Yorkshire
Thornhill is a village and former township in the unparished area of Dewsbury, Kirklees, West Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Thornhill was absorbed into County Borough of Dewsbury, Dewsbury County Borough in 1910. It is located on a hill on the south side of the River Calder, West Yorkshire, River Calder, and has extensive views of Dewsbury, Ossett and Wakefield. It is known for its collection of Anglo-Saxon crosses. History Thornhill is mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086 as within the ancient Hundred (county division), wapentake of Agbrigg and Morley, Agbrigg, while Anglian crosses and other remains indicate that there was a settlement here by the 9th century. A hoard of 27 Roman denarius, denarii found in Turnip Lane and pottery at the cross indicates substantially earlier settlement. Kent County Cricket Club
Kent County Cricket Club is one of the eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Kent. A club representing the county was first founded in 1842 but Kent teams have played top-class cricket since the early 18th century, and the club has always held first-class status. Northamptonshire County Cricket Club
Northamptonshire County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Northamptonshire. Its limited overs team is called the Northants Steelbacks – a reference to the Northamptonshire Regiment which was formed in 1881. The name was supposedly a tribute to the soldiers' apparent indifference to the harsh discipline imposed by their officers. Founded in 1878, Northamptonshire (Northants) held minor status at first but was a prominent member of the early Minor Counties Championship during the 1890s. Nicholas Jason Speak (born 21 November 1966) is a former Lancashire and Durham batsman, who played first-class cricket from 1986 to 2001. After a number of years as a regular member of the strong Lancashire team of the early to mid 1990s, he left to join Durham, becoming captain in the 2000 season. Stuart Grant Law (born 18 October 1968) is an Australian-born cricket coach and former cricketer. He played one Test and 54 One Day Internationals (ODIs) for Australia. Law also captained Queensland to five Sheffield Shield titles and two one day trophies, making him the most successful captain in Australian domestic cricket; he is also Queensland's all-time leading run scorer in first-class cricket. Paul Grayson (cricketer)
Adrian Paul Grayson (born 31 March 1971) is an English former cricketer who played first-class cricket for Yorkshire and Essex. Following his playing retirement he served as Essex's head coach from 2007 to 2015. Grayson made his first-class debut for Yorkshire in 1990 where he played for five years. Having been released in 1995, he joined Essex and was awarded his county cap in his first season, 1996. Grayson played for England in one day internationals in 2000, at the ICC knock out Competition. He was out for a golden duck, and his five overs went for 20 runs. He played his second ODI a year later, having been chosen for the squad to tour Zimbabwe. Grayson retired from first-class cricket at the end of the 2005 season, having scored 8,655 runs at 31.70, and taken 136 wickets at 44.39. Graham Alan Gooch, (born 23 July 1953) is a former English first-class cricketer who captained Essex and England. He was one of the most successful international batsmen of his generation, and through a career spanning from 1973 until 2000, he became the most prolific run scorer of all time, with 67,057 runs across first-class and limited-overs games. His List A cricket tally of 22,211 runs is also a record. He is one of only twenty-five players to have scored over 100 first-class centuries. The County Championship (referred to as the LV= Insurance County Championship for sponsorship reasons) is the domestic first-class cricket competition in England and Wales and is organised by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Essex County Cricket Club is one of eighteen first-class county clubs within the domestic cricket structure of England and Wales. It represents the historic county of Essex. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis.
