Nathan Thompson (Australian Footballer)
Nathan Thompson (born 14 February 1978) is a former Australian rules footballer, who previously played with the Hawthorn and clubs in the Australian Football League. He has been a previous panellist on the Sunday Footy Show. Early career Thompson originated from the Kyneton and was invited to train with as an 18 year old. He spent 1997 playing with Hawthorns reserve grade team that accumulated with a reserve grand final appearance. He was one of Hawthorns best that day in a losing side. A tall marking forward, Thompson was an important young player for the club considering he was selected in the 1997 AFL Draft at pick 82. Kyneton Football Club
The Kyneton Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Tigers'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the town of Kyneton, Victoria. Kyneton teams currently compete in the Bendigo Football Netball League. The football squad has played there since 1932. History It has been said that Kyneton was the Victorian town where the first organised regional football match was contested, although other records indicate that a game was played at Castlemaine in June 1859. Saverio Rocca
Saverio Giovanni Rocca (born 20 November 1973) is a retired Australian professional sportsman. He played Australian rules football for Collingwood and North Melbourne in the Australian Football League, and then switched to playing American football as a punter for the Philadelphia Eagles and Washington Redskins in the National Football League. Rocca was born in Melbourne. Between 1992 and 2007, he played 257 AFL games as a full forward or centre half-forward, kicking 748 goals. He ranks fourteenth on the all-time goalscoring list. Rocca was his team's leading goalkicker on ten occasions (seven for Collingwood and three for North Melbourne), and in 1995 won the Copeland Trophy as Collingwood's best and fairest player. The 1998 AFL season was the 102nd season of the Australian Football League (AFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Australia, which was known as the Victorian Football League until 1989. 1997 AFL Season
The 1997 AFL season was the 101st season of the Australian Football League (AFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Australia, which was known as the Victorian Football League until 1989. The season ran from 27 March until 27 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top eight clubs. Before the season, the Port Adelaide Football Club (SANFL) was admitted to the league, increasing the South Australian membership to two clubs. Foundation club Fitzroy, which had gone into administration in 1996, merged with the Brisbane Bears to form a new Queensland-based club known as the Brisbane Lions. The Footscray Football Club changed its name to the Western Bulldogs. With these changes, the league's size remained at sixteen clubs. Western Bulldogs
The Western Bulldogs are a professional Australian rules football team that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), the sport's premier competition. Founded in 1877 as the Footscray Football Club, and based in West Footscray in the old City of Footscray west of Melbourne, the club won nine premierships in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) before gaining admission to the Victorian Football League (which became the AFL in 1990) in 1925. ''The Footy Show'' was an Australian sports and variety entertainment television program which aired on the Nine Network. The show was dedicated to the Australian Football League (AFL) and Australian rules football. The show featured a panel of hosts and a rotating regular panel of guests. Sally Robbins
Sally Robbins (born 15 July 1981) is an Australian sportswoman. Originally from Perth, Western Australia, she attended the rowing program at the Western Australian Institute of Sport, and later represented Australia at the women's four at the 2000 Olympics and the women's eight at the 2004 Olympics. At the 2004 Olympics she stopped rowing due to exhaustion during the final part of the race, for which she was heavily criticised. After the conclusion of her rowing career, Robbins attempted to become a professional cyclist. Biography Robbins was born in Perth, Western Australia, and attended Melville Senior High School. Sirengate
The AFL siren controversy (dubbed Sirengate) surrounded the conclusion and result of an Australian rules football match played on 30 April 2006 during Round 5 of the Australian Football League's 2006 season. The match was played between the St Kilda and Fremantle Football Clubs at Aurora Stadium (then the sponsor name of York Park) in Launceston, Tasmania. When the final siren sounded, Fremantle were leading by one point; however, the umpires did not hear the siren, and play continued for around 10 seconds, during which time St Kilda scored a point to tie the match. Four days later, the AFL Commission determined that the match should have been ended when the first siren sounded. As a result of this, St Kilda were stripped of their last behind as well as the two competition points for a draw that they had received. Drew Petrie
Drew Petrie (born 15 October 1982) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the North Melbourne Football Club and the West Coast Eagles in the Australian Football League (AFL). He came out of retirement in 2017 to play for the West Coast Eagles in the Western Australian Football League (WAFL). AFL career Petrie debuted in 2001 and played more than 300 games for North Melbourne Football Club. He played in a variety of roles for the Kangaroos including centre half-forward, defence and ruck. Nathan Carroll (Australian Footballer)
Nathan Carroll (born 20 October 1980) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for Melbourne in the Australian Football League (AFL). Carroll was recruited to the Fremantle Football Club from Claremont in the 2000 Rookie draft and stayed on the rookie list for one season (2000) before being delisted. A defender, he was selected by Melbourne in the 2003 Rookie Draft and he made his AFL debut that season. After playing only eleven games in his first two seasons, 2005 loomed as an important year for Carroll. He made his way into the team late in the season, before an injury in the Round 18 loss to St Kilda sidelined him for two weeks. He was recalled for the last three games of Melbourne's season. He underwent surgery on his shoulder at the end of the 2005 season. In 2006, Carroll was a much improved player and played all 24 games in easily his best season to date. Mark (Australian Football)
A mark in Australian rules football is the catch of a kicked ball which earns the catching player a free kick. The catch must be cleanly taken, or deemed by the umpire to have involved control of the ball for sufficient time. A tipped ball, or one that has touched the ground cannot be marked. Since 2002, in most Australian competitions, the minimum distance for a mark is 15 metres (16 yards or 49 feet). Marking is one of the most important skills in Australian football. Aiming for a teammate who can mark their kick is the primary focus of any kicking player not kicking for goal.
