Natasha Wheat
Natasha Rose Wheat (born October 25, 1981) is an interdisciplinary artist who lives and works in the United States. Her works have been described as situational constructions, often transforming her audience into co-participants in the work. She is the founder of Portland, Oregon based arts and urban farming project, Project Grow, an arts atelier for people with disabilities at the site of a factory. It began in 2008 as an intervention into sweatshop type labor at a factory where the people with disabilities were working. The School of the Art Institute of Chicago (SAIC) is a private art school associated with the Art Institute of Chicago (AIC) in Chicago, Illinois. Tracing its history to an art students' cooperative founded in 1866, which grew into the museum and school, SAIC has been accredited since 1936 by the Higher Learning Commission, by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design since 1944 (charter member), and by the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (AICAD) since the associations founding in 1991. Urban Farm
Urban agriculture, urban farming, or urban gardening is the practice of cultivating, processing, and distributing food in or around urban areas. It encompasses a complex and diverse mix of food production activities, including fisheries and forestry, in cities in both developed and developing countries. The term also applies to urban area activities of animal husbandry, aquaculture, beekeeping, and horticulture. These activities occur in peri-urban areas as well, although peri-urban agriculture may have different characteristics. Urban agriculture can reflect varying levels of economic and social development. It may be a social movement for sustainable communities, where organic growers, "foodies", and "locavores" form social networks founded on a shared ethos of nature and community holism. Project Grow
Project Grow was an Arts and urban farming program in Portland, Oregon. It exists at the Port City Development Center in North Portland. It is a program for people with developmental disabilities, and was mentioned in the Oregonian as the only program of its sort in the country. It was founded in 2009 by Social Practice artist Natasha Wheat. Under the leadership of Port City Development Center's administration, in June 2012 Project Grow has adopted the mission of the parent organization and no longer operates under the principles it was based on since January 2009. Port City Development Center is a certified vocational rehabilitation facility that offers a variety of tasks for the enrichment of people with developmental disabilities. Kirby James Fairchild is an American guitarist and singer-songwriter. He is best known as the lead guitarist of the indie rock bands Grandaddy and Modest Mouse. Fairchild has released solo material under the pseudonym All Smiles. Biography Born in Fresno, California, Fairchild moved to Modesto at the age of two, and began to play guitar at the age of 14. He has lived in Los Angeles, Chicago, Portland, Oregon, San Francisco, and New York City. Since 2014 he has lived in Los Angeles. Fairchild joined Grandaddy as guitarist in 1995, and remained with the band until they broke up in 2006. He is featured on the Giant Sand release, '' Cover Magazine''.
