Natalia Palavandishvili
Natalia Palavandishvili ( ka, ნატალია ფალავანდიშვილი) (9 November 1921 – 2006) was a Georgian painter, graphic artist, and illustrator. Palavandishvili studied at the Tbilisi State Academy of Fine Art, from which she graduated in 1945. Largely a portrait artist, she was associated for a portion of her career with Elene Akhvlediani. She also produced a series of paintings depicting views of Old Tbilisi. She specialized in watercolor and gouache, but she also worked in oils. Palavandishvili was named a People's Artist of Georgia in 1984, having already been named Meritorious Artist of Georgia in 1965. Palavandishvili was the subject of a monograph published in 2016. Elene Akhvlediani () (April 5, 1898 in Telavi – December 30, 1975 in Tbilisi) was a 20th-century Georgian painter, graphic artist, and theater decorator. Gouache
Gouache (; ), body color, or opaque watercolor is a water-medium paint consisting of natural pigment, water, a binding agent (usually gum arabic or dextrin), and sometimes additional inert material. Gouache is designed to be opaque. Gouache has a considerable history, having been used for at least twelve centuries. It is used most consistently by commercial artists for posters, illustrations, comics, and other design work. Gouache is similar to watercolor in that it can be re-wetted and dried to a matte finish, and the paint can become infused into its paper support.
